Descendants of Nathaniel Piper

Generation No. 2

2. NATHANIEL3 PIPER (NATHANIEL2, JOSIAS1) was born June 25, 1658 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts, and died 1689 in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

Notes for N
ATHANIEL PIPER:
Nathaniel Piper, born June 25, 1658, in Ipswich; died probably about 1689, in Ipswich. The children with the consent of their mother Sarah, sold the homestead of their father to John Wainright, of Ipswich, the deed being dated June 18, 1690, and signed by John Piper, Thomas Piper, Mary Piper, and Tristram Greenleaf, who married Margaret Piper. Nathaniel Piper does not appear as a signer of the deed, nor does his name appear in it, although his father had given him by will a part of his property. It would seen, therefore, that he had died before the farm was sold. Rev. Asa Piper speaks of three sons of Nathaniel Piper, namely, Nathaniel, Thomas, and Samuel. He says: "Two of them went to Statham, N.H., and the other I believe died young." Nathaniel may be the one who died young, that is, a young man. Notes taken from history done by Horace Piper.

Notes for T
HOMAS PIPER:
Thomas Piper, born November 26, 1666, in Ipswich; married Grace Hawley, of Wenham, November 21, 1692; died perhaps in Stratham, N.H. and his wife in the same place. It is not certainly known whether he went to Stratham or not; his son Thomas went there. Notes taken from history done by Horace Piper.
Thomas probably lived in Wenham before and during his early married life. He went to Portsmouth doubtless in Greenland Parish, New Hampshire, soon after 1701. this was two years before Greenland Parish was incorporated as a town in 1703.
The abstract of a Provincial deed shows on February 10, 1718-19 Andrew Wiggin, tanner of Stratham, Hew Hampshire conveyed to Thomas Piper of Portsmouth sixty acres of land. This tract was within the town of Stratham, near Vesey's Mill on the Winicut River near the Stratham-Greenland border. At this time Thomas probably moved from Portsmouth to this acreage in Stratham, and made his home on it, a yeoman, the remainder of his life.
On January 16, 1721 when Thomas Piper was nearly 55 years of age, he deeded to his oldest son Thomas Piper Jr. , thirty acres of land on condition that he pay one-half the charges of maintenance of his father and mother during their natural lives. On the same day he conveyed to his other son Nathaniel Piper, thirty acres of land in Stratham, the balance of his total of sixty acres, on the same condition. He signed both deals with his mark.
