      Silas was born April 25, 1767, in Acton; married Mehitable Barker of Acton, June 7, 1791, died in 1838, in Acton, on the homestead left him by his father. He was a great liberality and much force of character. She died 3/1874, at the age of one hundred and three years. She was a remarkable woman, not only on account of her great age, but also for other qualities. Solomon Piper, in his book of genealogy, says of her: "Mehitable Barker descended from an ancient family in the town of Acton. Her comely form and benignant countenance, the faithful index of cheerfulness and contentment within are the delight of all around her.

Silas Piper was settled by his father on the paternal estate in Acton, where he continued to support and minister to the comfort of his parents through their declining years. He was remarkable for his social qualities. his house was the seat of hospitality, and a home for the returning members of the ancient family, who were ever greeted with a hearty welcome and entertained at his liberal board. He reared a numerous family of children and lived to see them all respectable settled in life. He passed all his days on the same estate, and died at the age of 71 years.

      Mehitable Barker, afterwards wife of Silas Piper descended from an ancient family in the town of Acton, where she still lived in 1849 at the age of 78, in the enjoyment of health and the full possession of all her faculties. Her comely form and benignant countenance, the faithful index of cheerfulness and contentment within, are the delight of all around her. She was the only survivor of all the sons and daughters of the late Joseph Piper. she lived with her youngest son, Jonathan A. Piper, who succeeds to the inheritance of his father and grandfather, and she shares largely in the affections of her grateful children. Long may she continue to bless and be blessed of her race.
