OBITUARY;
Mary (Piper) Ferris's obituary was published in the Barry Adage Weekly on Thursday, December 31, 1891.
After a severe affliction of 15 or more years, Mrs Mary Ferris, nee Piper, departed this life Monday December 28, at 11 o'clock aged 69 years 5 months and 6 days. She was born July 22, 1822, and came to Illinois in the fall of 1842. In the year 1846 she was joined in marriage with L. N. Ferris, who, with an only son and his family, mourn the loss. Uniting with the M. E. church in 1843 she remained a faithful consistent Christian to the day of her death. Before her affliction, which was caused by an accident or injury that rendered her almost entirely and permanently helpless herself, she was zealously active to the extent of her ability in works of mercy and help. In her death, there is the loss of a beloved companion, a dear mother, a kind neighbor and an exemplary Christian woman. Her funeral was conducted from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon and the remains deposited in Barry Cemetery.
