NOTES FROM HISTORY NATHANIEL PIPER AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS.

Jonas Brooks Piper was born on his father's farm in the southeast part of Dublin and within a mile or two of the birthplace of his wife. They lived in Dublin until April 28, 1872, when they moved to Peterborough. His father died when he was only six years old. While they lived in Dublin he was occupied by farming, making shoes by hand, and by carpentering. Upon moving to Peterborough he was employed in Joshua Briggs' Pianostool Manufactory where he continued as long as he was able to do regular work, a good mechanic. Before his marriage he worked for a few years in Philadelphia.
      In the latter part of the year 1873, he bought a place on Union Street, in Peterborough, formerly owned by Allison G. Howe, a dentist, and this was their home for the remainder of their lives. Both Mr. and Mrs. Piper were members of the Unitarian Church and were regular and faithful attendants until incapacitated by age. Mr. Piper had only a meager schooling but by his own efforts he became a well-educated man and never lost his interest in learning.
      He was well above average ability yet modest and unassuming by nature-honest, friendly, and self-sacrificing. He never claimed a dollar as his own for which he did not give to the world a goodly equivalent. Serenity, faith in the laws of nature and fortitude were his virtues.
