Frederick William Bailey was first listed in the Nashua City Directory in 1881- 82. At that time he was shown living in a house on 6 Walnut (Court?) with his wife, Mary Isabel Emery, of Peterboro, NH (it was a usual procedure not to enter wive's names..why?) He was working as a Section Hand (laborer) at the Nash or Nashua Mfg. Co. with his brother Albert H. who was listed as Second Hand. In 1883-84 their residence remained the same. Edward Emery Bailey was born in 1883. Fannie Eliza Bailey was born in 1884. Fred & Albert were both listed as Second Hands, apparently a step up from section hands, at Nash or Nashua Mfg Co. In 1887-88 Fred and Mary moved to a house on 7 Palm Street. Fred & Albert still worked as 2nd hands joined by brother Charles Parker a spinner at the Nash or Nashua Mfg Co. In 1889-90 Fred & Mary moved to 23 Arlington. He was a shoe trimmmer with the W.D. Brackett & Co. Albert & Charles were still with Nash or Nashua Mfg Co. In 1891 the family moved to a house on 103 Vine. There was no change for Albert & Charles however Albert was promoted to Overseer of spinning. In 1892 Fred became a driver and the family moved again to rooms at 34 Summer. Psbly a cut in pay forced the move. In 1896 Fred took a job as section hand (Nashua Mfg ?) & moved to a house at 23 Vine where Ethelyn Marian Bailey was born. In 1900 Fred was promoted to Second Hand (Nashua Mfg Co ?) & the family remained at 103 Vine. It appears that Fred was a Second Hand and the family lived at 103 Vine until his death shortly after the death of his wife Mary. Ethelyn (Bailey) Baillie remembered her father as being an overseer which is the way he was listed on the Marriage license of both Frank and Ethelyn (Bailey) Baillie and Walter and Fannie (Bailey) Davidson. His promotion may have been missed by the Nashua City Directory. Fred's gold Railroad pocket watch was bequeathed to Frank Albert Baillie Sr & on his death to elder son Frank Albert Baillie Jr who passed it on to his oldest son, Bruce Douglas Baillie who will eventually pass it on to his oldest (blood) son Robert Frank. Baillie.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 25, Ed. 1, Tree #0123, Date of Import: Sep 9, 1999]

Walter became the "man of the house" at some 8 years of age when his fireman father died young & he took a job as a sweeper (perhaps in Saranac, NY where his father died). His occupation was listed as machinist on his wedding certificate. As a boy he told of seeing Frank James, of the western badman James brothers, walk past him & enter a country store in search of supplies. He first appeared on the Nashua City Directory in 1928 as a Machinist living with Fannie in 1928. They listed in 1935 living in rooms on Milford Rd and then on 29 Mason St. In 1940 he is shown as a foreman in a house on 12 Maple. In 1950 he was listed as retired and apparently still at 12 Maple. Walt was an avid fisherman & cribbage player. As a boy I can remember trips to NH lakes where we fished early & breakfasted on the catch. Walt & Fannie were snow birds in later years, spending winters in Florida. Walt had at least one child by a previous marriage.
