Notes for M
ARGARET PIPER:

OBITUARY;
      Mrs. Margaret Piper Young came to the end of her earthly pilgrimage Friday afternoon at her home on South Main street in Princeton. Her heath at the age of 67 years was the result of a lingering illness.
      Mrs. Young was the daughter of Hiram H. and Amanda Piper. She was born January 13, 1864. At the age of 29 years, September 4, 1894 she was united in marriage to William Hassler, who receded her in death years ago as the result of an automobile accident. To this union two children were born, both dying in infancy.
      In the year 1910, she was married to Edwin Marcus Young with whom twenty years of happy married life were spent. His death on May 3, 1930 not only brought this happy relationship to an end but administered a shock from which she never fully recovered. She constantly grieved over his departure.
      One year following her marriage to Mr. Young she was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist church of Princeton, September 9, 1911. During the twenty years she was a member of this church she was constant in attendance at its services, interested in its support. Whenever possible she gladly rendered service in its behalf. These sterling qualities were never abandoned. They were exemplified to the very last.
      Although in failing health for some time, the last few months of her life were marked with the appearance of graver symptoms. But in spite of depressing physical ailments, she bore her lot incompliantly in the spirit of true Christian steadfastness and courage.
      Two immediate relatives preceded her in death: one brother having died in infancy, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Vane, who died in the year 1917. Six brothers and one sister survive her; Mrs. William S. Mercer, of Princeton, Ill.; Abraham L. Piper, of Ohio Ill.; June H. Piper, William E. Piper, Ansel D. Piper, of Princeton, Ill.; Albert Piper of Croodston, Minn., and Harding H. Piper of Van Orin, Illinois.
      Two children Mrs. Bert Kimberley of Princeton, Ill., and Russell Young of Denver, Colo., and six grandchildren; John, Margaret, Thomas Burtram Kimberley Jr, Marjorie, Russell Jr., and Maxine Victoria Young, mourn her departure as well as a host of other friends and acquaintances.
      Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Monday afternoon, Rev. R. Shepley officiating. Miss Minerva Ann Place rendered appropriate vocal music. Interment took place in Oakland Cemetery.

Notes for W
ILLIAM HASSLER:
      William, Hassler, who is engaged in general farming in Berlin township, was born in Bureau county, April 11, 1867, and is the eldest son of Jacob and Elizabeth ( Lintz ) Hassler. The father was also a native of this country, while the mother's birth occurred in Germany and from that country she came to America when a little maiden of seven summers. Establishing their home in Bureau county, their son, William Hassler, was reared upon the old homestead farm and early became familiar with the duties and labors that fall to the lot of the agriculturist. He worked in the fields through the summer months and in the winter seasons attended the public schools. Having arrived at years of maturity he chose a companion and helpmate for life's journey Miss Maggie Piper, whom he wedded on the 4th of September, 1894, a daughter of Hiram H. Piper. Unto this marriage two children were born but are now deceased.
      Mr. Hassler is a democrat in his political views and stanchly advocates the principles of the party, while his religious faith is indicated by his membership in the German Lutheran church. He manages one hundred and sixty acres of choice land and promises to be one of the leading farmers of the county. He also owns eighty acres on section 6, Hall township, inherited from his father. If honesty, thrift and push will accomplish results Mr. Hassler, with the start that he has already made, will make a success. He has already made a creditable record, owing his success entirely to his perseverance and energy and his life thus far illustrates what may be accomplished through the exercise of those qualities which have long been recognized as essential factors to prosperity.
