BERNARD ERNESTO "BUN" FABREGAS WAS BORN 29 MARCH 1894 IN THE WASHINGTON AVENUE HOMESTEAD IN SUMMERFIELD, MARINERS HARBOR, STATEN ISLAND, IN NEW YORK. HIS MOTHER WAS ATTENDED BY DR. WILLIAM WALSER AND MRS. PITTS. BERNARD (MY FATHER) WAS BAPTISED IN ST. MARYS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN PORT RICHMOND ON STATEN ISLAND. BY FATHER CAMBELL. HIS GOD PARENTS WERE FROM MAHON ON THE BELEARES ISLAND ON MINORCA IN SPAIN ALTHOUGH HE HAD PROXY'S IN THE UNITED STATES. . HE DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES ON 25 MAY 1986 AT HIS SON HERBERTS HOME IN ERWIN, NORTH CAROLINA. Bernard Ernesto Fabregas, " Bun ", my dad, was born in the P.M. on the 29th of March 1894 at the Washington Avenue Homestead, in Summerfield on the north shore of Staten Island in New York. He died of natural causes. At his birth, his mother was attended by Dr. William Walser and Mrs.Pitts. Dad was baptised by Father William Cambell at St Marys Roman Catholic Church in West Brighton on Staten Island. His proxy godparents were from Mahon in the Baleares Island of Menorca in Spain. He died at my home ( Herbert Francis Fabregas ) in Erwin, North Carolina on the 25th of May 1986. He attended Cooper Union Univ. in Manhatten in New York City. He worked in the Staten Island shipyard in the hard times and then worked as a Maintenance Signal Foreman for the Staten Island Rapid Transit which was part of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad System. He is buried with his wife Pearl ( my mom ) in the Masonic section of Valhallah Cemetery in the Great Kills/New Dorp area of Staten Island. He married Pearl Elizabeth Piper who was born on Pipers alley, Mariners Harbor on Staten Island. Mom was born on the 9th of October 1897.and died in Doctors Hospital on Staten Island on the 28th of October 1971. After the children started to arrive, Bernard ( a Roman Catholic ) and Pearl ( a Baptist ) became Episcopalians. Dad always talked of pumping the old bellows " Wind " organ in All Saints Episcopalian Church on Staten Island. We kids all attended All Saints Church and spent many a happy afternoon accross the street from it at the shore of the Kill Van Kull THat was the river that the church once floated on. That's another story though.
