Sergant Cecil E. Piper, son of Bert Piper and Sergant Betty Francis, of Chanute Field, were married in Rantoul Christmas eve by a chaplain at a candlelight service at 8:30. Officers from the field attended them as best man and one gave the bride away.

Meet Your Businessman

When a reporter walked into the Piper service station there was Mr. Piper, better known around town as "Ike" talking away and working with his head under the hood of a truck. Mr. Piper was born on a farm east of Bradford and has lived in town since 1933. He attended a country school trough the grades and graduated from Bradford High in 1937. The idea of being a traveling salesman rather appealed to Mr. Piper when he was younger. At that time he was an oil station attendant in after-school hours, and he has been with that business ever since. His real ambition soon was that of becoming self-employed and that came to pass in 1947.

Mr. Piper is married and has one son, Brandon, who is in the third grade of the Bradford Public school. Mr Piper enlisted in the Coast Guard in September of 1942 and was discharged in November of 1945. He belongs to the Methodist Church in Bradford, to the Businessmen's club and to the American Legion. also, when he has the time, he like to take the day off and go hunting. Mr. Piper says, "My interest in managing oil stations as an occupation has grown as the years have passed. Serving and servicing for the people of Bradford has become a fulfillment which I enjoy and which I hope to continue in the future. (written by Dorothy Chasteen)

Kimberly Jean Piper, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Piper, of Bradford, was stillborn at the Peoria Methodist Hospital on Thursday, August 28, 1963. Prayer service was held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Dunlap Funeral in Bradford. The Rev. Lloyd R. Wages, of the Bradford Baptist Church, presided. Interment was in Bradford cemetery.

Notes for WILLARD HOWE PIPER:
      After his marriage, Williard had his first teaching job in Wyanet, Illinois. He continued to teach there for 5 years. Later on Willard had a chance to farm with his father and thought he'd like to try it. His son was old enough by then to take his Willard's father's place when he retired. Sometime before semi-retiring, Willard built a home on some of the land they farmed. Willard had a Knee replacement in December of 1986. Willard's death was sudden and unexpected.
