Funeral services for Oakley Pitts to be held Friday:

Oakley Pitts, age 89 of Anna, passed away in Union County Nursing Home at 7:45 P.M. on Tuesday. He was a farmer and lifelong resident on Union County and a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Anna. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie, March 30, 1950. He is survived by two daughters, Mamie Howard of Kankakee and Mrs. Annie Drumm of Peoria; four sons, James of Kankakee; Pete, Frank and Leroy, all of Anna; one brother, Lester Pitts of Anna, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the United Pentecostal Church in Anna, Friday at 2 P.M., Rev. Roy Simpkins officiating. Interment will be at the Anna Cemetery. Friends may call anytime at the Mc Carty Funeral Home until the funeral hour.


Oakley Pitts, son of James and Ann Pitts (Oakley was actually the son of John Allen and Julia Ann Pitts) but was raised from early childhood by his Grandparents James Pitts and Emiline (Ann) Spurlock Pitts), was born April 5, 1880 in Woodbury Tenn., and died April 29, 1969, at the union County Nursing Home in Anna. Mr. Pitts was married to the former Bessie Harper in December of 1898, in Union County, Illinois and had lived most of his life in the Anna area. Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by four children and his wife, who died March 30, 1950. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mamie Howard of Kankakee and Mrs. Annie Drumm of Peoria; four sons, James Pitts of Kankakee, Thomas P. (Pete), Frank and Leroy Pitts, all of Anna; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Lester Pitts of Anna. Funeral services were held at the united Pentecostal church in Anna, Friday, May 2, at 2 P.M., by Rev. Roy Simpkins. Interment was in the Anna Cemetery. McCarty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
