Leffall Family of Elysian Fields, Texas

Updated June 8, 2004

About Our Family Research

The Leffall family can be traced back to former slaves Mathis and Hollie Leffall. Both were slaves born in Georgia and later migrated to Alabama. Mathis met an un-timely death in Alabama, not many years after emancipation. Hollie his widow, loaded a couple of wagons and moved her family from Alabama to Texas. Traveling with her are sons Calvin, William and Jack. Also her two daughters Mattie and Queen.

The family reached Elysian Fields, Texas around 1871 and it is here that the family experienced a massive expansion. Each of Hollie's children became parents of at least 10 to 14 kids of their own. This post-slavery baby boom has allowed the Leffall name to survive more than 184 years.

Long Live the "Leffall Family!"
