"Tobias King, it is supposed, was born in Ireland. He acquired a small tract of land near Armagh, Ireland...occupation - a weaver of linen. Of his three married children, two died in the United Staes. The other, a daughter, in Ireland. The male line is confined to this country, United States, and finally after the death of William of Tobias King, is confined to the descendants of Tobias King's eldest con, Francis, which last had but one son, William, of the third generation. Of the third generation, the elder two, William and Esther, only were born in Ireland; the remainder in America. Francis of the third generation, with his wife and children landed at Baltimore, in July, 1774. They lived in Pennsylvania until the close of the Revolutionary War in 1783. He died in 1784. He was a farmer. His son, William, learned the trade of cabinet making in Annapolis, Maryland, moved to Georgetown, D.C., June 6, 1795,where he yet (July 17, 1847) remains. The Irish branch of the family, vis.,the Dobbins, has no place on this table, but a record of their names and births and marriages is in the possession of this writer . The dates of births, etc.,were obtained partly from letters from William Dobbin, son of Elizabeth, daughter of Tobias, to myself. These letters bear dates from 1784 to 1847 inclusive.

As of 1994, the original of this family tree plus the letters and other documents referred to above are in the possession of William King, of Bethesda, MD, whose mother Roberta King, and father, LeRoy King ( first cousins), with the help of experts from the Smithsonian, have preserved these documents.
