John Allen Raines 11{Uncle Johnny}"

Johnny was born Aug 15 1881 in Boone Co Ark to John Allen and Mary Elizabeth Bly Raines.

He came to Ft Gibson Indain Territory in 1898 where he worked driving a freight wagon for Joe Eldridge to Tahlequah for $3.00 a day.and 1 meal.

He married Mary Amy[Omie] Rowan May 25 1901 in Ft Gibson with the  marraige license acquired in Wagner as Muskogee didnt have a court house at that time.

Omie was born sept 24 1881 in Lead Hill Ark to John and Martha Hurd Rowan., the Rowans came to Ft Gibson  in 1898 with the Raines and Haskins Families. family

Johns Parents moved back to Ark by 1900 but John remained there . with his Aunt and Uncle Priscilla and John Haskins.

They lived in wagon for several months.

Omie had been working as a maid and seamstress  for John and Mary Rogers in a large white house north of the Ark. river bridge.until her marraige.

They made several trips back to Boone co Ark  but came back to Ft Gibson in 1921 to remain the rest of their lives.

John and Omie had 10 Children

3 died as infants and 1 died at age7.

[1]Martha Ann [Annie] was born Dec 10 1902 in  Boone Co Ark. married Samuel Bowlen Mar 23 1923@Muskogee. died dec 17 1973 in Houston Texas. She is Buried beside Samuel in the Citizen Cem @Ft Gibson

[4]Annis Sarah born Jan 7 1907  in Boone co Ark married Frank Moydell died May 1996 @ft Gibson Okla. Children:Elmer,Bob,Louise,Tom and Carolyn..

[5]Edward Reno[BILL] born april 26 1912 @Boone Co Ark married May 26 1933 @ Ft Gibson to Pheby Throuveny  Children:Mxine,Effie,Mary and Debbie.

[6] Bonnie Jane born june 12 1915 at Meeker Ok. lincoln co married #1 Jay Eubanks  Children: Estel and Charles #Tom Scott. Child Linda. #3 Lester Bailey [no Children] Died Nov 30 1979 and is buried in the Citizen Cem @ Ft Gibson.

[7]Walter[Jack] born jan 29 1918@ PragueOkla. lincoln co . married Ethel Nutt 1939 @ Ft Gibson Children:Francis and Linda.

[8]Infant son born and died 1920 buried in Keokuk Cem near Prague Okla.

[9]Bernice   Mae  Aug 30 1922 @ Ft Gibson  Married 1St Wesley Sawyer. Oct 15 1943 in Carlsbad Calif. 

Children : Bobby,Wesley, Linda John  #2 Fred Rogers [ no children] Wesley was killed on the job oct 28 1949 @ Gore,Okla.

[10] Samuel Coy born and died age 1 month in 1924  Buried @ Gore Okla.

Uncle Johnny was a noted stonemason and there is still a lot of his work in Ft Gibson . He was head stonemason and helped buld the old highschool.

A lot of the stone fences still stsnding there were build by him.

Omie Died Dec 14 1946 and Johnny never remarried. he helped raise some of his grandchildren from time to time.

My Memories of Uncle Johnny is he was Thin,over 6 ft Tall, Always wore a hat and had the Prettiest Blue Twinkling Eyes. He Had bad eye sight in his later Years . but still read his Bible. if you asked him about anything in the Bible he could Quote it and tell you exactly where to find it.

He was Struck and killed by a car while crossing the Street in Ft Gibson on Nov 1968 and in Buried in The Citizen Cem.@Ft .Gibson
