I am trying to find out more about my father's family. Ray Reece lived in Walker County as a child. He was born in 1925 in Aldridge which is in Walker County, Alabama. He went in the Navy with a fake birth certificate (as I have been told) when he was fourteen. They found out and kicked him out. But, before the Navy found out, his records (again as I was told) were changed. They replaced the "C" in Reece with an "S". It has stayed that way ever since.
After he left the Navy, he worked various jobs including carpentry and was inducted into the Army in 1950 at the age of 25. He was discharged in 1952. Sometime between the botched Naval service and 1952, he was married and had at least one son. He was divorved and listed as single by the time he was discharged from the Army accoring to his discharge papers.
Eleven days after he left the Army, he then married my mom, Ellen in LaGrange, Ga. They lived in Walker and Jefferson Counties for a few years and then moved to LaGrange, Georgia where I was born in 1963 as the youngest of what I thought was five sons.
As a child, we used to visit some relatives in Walker County but we never knew of the first marriage and first son until well after Dad died in 1980. Mom's sister told us about this shortly before mom died in 1987.
I recently moved to Walker County to be closer to my wife's family after the birth of our son, Granger. I would really like to meet this brother. He would be about 56 or 57 now. I would think he had kids and maybe even grandkids by now. My other brothers all said through the years we would try to find him but we never did. I live here now so there is no reason to wait. (I have since found out that he passed away a few years ago.)
Please, if anyone has any information about the family of Ray Reece/Reese, please e-mail me at stanreese@.... Even if it's info on aunts/uncles/cousins insead of his first child. Any info is important for me.
My Father's (Great?) Aunts and Uncles were William Elbert Thomas (born 3/28/1898), Bertha Edna Thomas (born 3/2/1900), Nora Alvie McClellan (born 7/20/1902), Arthur Jackson Thomas (born 7/22/1907), Nella Mae Thomas (born 6/17/1912), Ocie Oscar Thomas (born 5/3/1915). I remember Aunt Nora very well from childhood visits over on Highway 5. She would have been in her 70's the last time I saw her but she was spry. As a matter of fact, she gave my mother some of this info before my mom died in 1987. Unlce Arthur, as I remember, lived in Vernon.
Again, the whole idea in all of this, for me, is to make contact with a half brother whom I have never met. He was born sometimes between 1940 and 1953. His name could have been Robert Reese or Ray Reese, Jr or Johnny Reese or any combination thereof. I believe he still lives here in Walker County. Probably married, maybe with kids and Grand kids. You can see my earlier post for more info. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
