Mix.                        John Henry PARK, born about 1840 in Georgia, died 27 May 1863 in Richmond, Virginia. "Christian Index" obituaries lists birth and death dates in 1896, but this is probably a different John H. Park. W. T, Park's son John Henry is listed in his father’s household, age 19, in the 1860 census. He is not listed in the father's will, which presumably listed all of his living children. He apparently died in VA during the Civil War:  Nettie Powell "The History of Marion County, 1827-1930" says that John H. Park of Marion County was a 3rd Corporal in the CSA, was wounded at McDowell, VA, on May 8, 1862; wounded at Fredericksburg, VA on Dec 13, 1862; died of wounds in Richmond, VA on May 27, 1863. This is not a well documented history, but members of the Park family were still living in the area in 1930 when the book was written and probably provided the material used. Mrs. Powell also had access to all the local Confederate records and used them.  Most of the Parks in this area were staunch Baptists and submitted items to the "Christian Index", including the Marion County Parks.  There was a John H. Park in the Sumter County area during this time who made a number of deeds, but does not seem to be W. T. Park's son. Some of the deeds indicate that his mother was a widow.

Fx.                           Elmina Antoinette PARK, born  2 Jul 1842 in Georgia. She married Uriah Solomon LOCKETT 27 Nov 1859. He was born  2 Aug 1832. Uriah died 19 Apr 1905.  Elmina died  6 Nov 1913. Census Notes:   1860 GA census, Marion Co, Kinchafoona District, family 387, page 395?, line 29. The have no children when the census is taken on July 24, 1860, shortly before the Civil War.   1880 GA census, Sumter Co, ED71/SH25/LN27. Antinette, age 37, and U. S. Lockett, age 47, have 5 children in the household. Eugene is 10, Ella is 6, Lillie is 5, Nettie is 3, and Carrie is 1 year old.  1900 GA census, Sumter Co, ED63/SH2/LN23. He was born Aug 1837 in Georgia.  Mazy died 29 Oct 1905. Census Notes:  1880 GA census, Sumter Co, ED71/SH22/LN30.                 Notes:   Information about the Moses Park family is taken from "Moses Park 1738-1828", by Clara Cammack Park and Wilbur Goolsby Park, 1991, Gateway Press Inc., Baltimore, an excellent book which provides references to source material. Other publications which provide information about the descendants of his sons Thomas and James are    "History of Walker County, Georgia", by James Alfred Sartain, 1932, The A. J. Showalter Company, Dalton, Ga., page 422 - "The Park Family of Walker County, Georgia", contributed by Mrs. Frances Park Stiles. Much of this same information by Mrs. Frances Park Stiles appears in "History of Catoosa County, Georgia, 1853-1953", by Susie Blaylock McDaniel, page 83. The ancestry of Moses Park is unproven. Percival David Park, of Charlottesville, VA, in his manuscript, "Possible Origins of Some Park Families in the Eastern Part of Old Rowan County, North Carolina", August 1994, has concluded that Moses Park is most probably a descendant of Roger Parke of Hunterdon County, NJ (born in England about 1638, came to New Jersey about 1682, died after 1703, probably at Hopewell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey). One of Roger Parke's sons was John Parke (born about 1674, died about 1757), who married Sarah Smith, daughter of Andrew Smith, Sr. One of the sons of Sarah Smith and John Parke was named John Parke, and is referred to in the "Origins" manuscript as John Parke II. John Parke II wife's name was Mary, and these may be the parents of Moses Park (b. 1738, d. 1828). These men are found in official records, but the suggested relationships are based on circumstantial evidence and cannot be confirmed with currently available information.
