| About Our Family Research |
|
Hello and welcome to my family web pages which are dedicated to sharing the information I have gathered about my family. For years I had heard family stories about distant ancestors. I was fortunate to receive a great deal of information from family members who had done previous research on my family. With this foundation I have been able to assemble a great deal of data from numerous sources during almost ten years of genealogy research. Mistakes may be present in my data because genealogy is not an exact science. If you find an error as you visit my different family pages please email me. I am always open to discussion, sharing of my files and data, and extremely happy to receive new or updated information. Be sure and check the "LINKS" section of this page if you do not see the family lines you are searching for. I currently have three active web pages. This web page is dedicated to my father's ancestors. The family lines researched on this page include Buttrey, Claxton (although debatable), Foley, Jones, Lampley, Richardson, Sikes, Sykes, Sullivan, Tidwell, Trotter and others.
My father was Elmer Eugene Richardson, second of eight children born to Ellis Eugene Richardson and Flara Virginia Jones who married February 14,1917. They lived in Williamson County, Fairview, TN. and tried to make a living by farming. My father told me how his father loaded the family in a wagon one evening and they rode to another farm to "watch the owner turn on his lights". About the time of the depression Ellis and Flara moved the family to the north side of Nashville, TN.
My father was about 19 and was sitting in a window when a 16 year old young woman walked by on her way to baby sit two kids for the evening. The two struck up a conversation and courted for one year before my parents married June 8,1940. My dad was drafted during World War two but due to a recent surgery he was turned down for duty. Because of his work skills it was suggested that he change jobs for the war effort. So he changed employers and began working for the Nashville Bridge Company building barges and ships for the war effort. After the war he went back to working on construction jobs. He stayed in that business until the early 1970s when he opened his own business which he ran until his health forced him to retire. For those reading this that are familiar with Nashville, you should know where the L & C Tower is located. For years it was the only "sky scraper" in Nashville. My mother tells the story of my dad coming home one evening and telling her to get the kids (3 boys) ready to go downtown after dinner, or supper as we know it in the south. My dad took us where we could see the huge electric lights reading L & C on the top of the building. He then told us that he had installed those lights that day. My father was a quiet man that loved his God and family, specially his grandchildren, country music and a good strong cup of coffee.
