Obituary
David M. Durham
Departed this life at his residence in Holmes county, Mississippi, on Thursday night, July 28, after a brief illness of forty-eight hours. His disease was congestion of the stomach and bowels. The deceased was born in Orange county, North Carolina, on 2nd of August, 1829, and was in the 28th year of age at the time of his death. He emigrated to the State of Mississippi, in the year 1849. Made a profession of religion, and was baptized into the fellowship of Richland Baptist Church, by Elder James K. Clinton in the year 1850. The writer deems it useless to extend this notice with any lengthy eulogy upon the virtues of our departed brother. He needs none. To know him was to love him. He was a dutiful son, a kind husband, a devoted Christian. Honored his profession by a well ordered deportment and Christian conversation. But, alas! he is gone, leaving behind a young, lovely and affectionate companion, two little sons, father and mother, brother and sisters, besides numerous relatives and friends to mourn his departure; but they sorrow not as those who have no hope, being confident that their Loos is his eternal gain.
