Includes NotesNotes for Phebe Anne Crabtree:
Hi Dave

Many thanks for the info you sent.....I've printed it and have been sifting thru it. Do you happen to remember where H.A. Roach's store was in Lone Grove? I seem to remember it being north of town. I plan to check in a few days to see if my mother remembers. She's in McKinney, TX, and I try and visit her a couple of times a year.

I also think that when Gus and Phebe migrated from TX up to the OK oil fields they operated a store in or near Oil City which as you probably know was a few miles east and north of Healdton. Obviously at some point Gus and Cora moved and started the store around Lone Grove.

At the end of this email I'm including what I've written about Phebe Crabtree (btw, she was born in Lee County, VA which is in the far western part of the state). Phebe's mother, Martha Flanary Crabtree, was also a Flanary so when Phebe first married John Flanary, her first husband, she married her first cousin. I've tried to get more info about James Jefferson & Martha Flanary Crabtree (Phebe's parents) of Ellis County, TX, but haven't had too much luck. They migrated from Lee County, VA, in 1857 and had a large presence in Ellis County, TX.

Would it be possible to get a copy of the picture you have of Phebe, Gus, and the Bert Flowery family? Most good photo shops could copy it easily....I've had good luck doing that here. I'd want to reimburse you for any expenses. I have no px of Phebe. I could have it copied here and return the original to you, but I can certainly understand if you'd rather not have it leave your possession even briefly.

Had better go now......Phebe's info follows.

Thanks again for what you sent............Barry

Phebe's first husband, John Flanary, was about 30 when he died. Several years later, on 11 October 1885, she would marry H.A. "Gus" Roach. She was 44 at that time and Gus Roach was only 19.

The 1900 Ellis Co., TX, census confirms the age differences (57 and 34) between them. It also shows her son, Lyman, his wife, Cora, and their 3 children were living next door. Bert V. Flanary (Son of Phebe's son Jim),age 12, is living with her and Gus.

In 1909 Phebe and Gus migrated from Texas to Carter Co., OK, where they operated a store in Oil City during the oil boom. H.A. "Gus" Roach would later marry Liman's wife, Cora, after his death in 1919.

Phebe died of "Paryalasis" at 82. She was buried the day she died. She and her son, Liman, are buried in Keller Cemetery. The cemetery is located three miles east and about 4 miles north of Wilson, Carter County, Oklahoma. (I have a copy of Phebe's death cert.)
