He married Eliza Folks October 19, 1865 in Highland County, Va., daughter of Adam Folks and Mary White. She was born November 28, 1845, and died March 23, 1932 in Denver, Colorado.

Notes for Thomas Ice, Jr.:
Thomas was a diminutive man, standing only five feet, and in later years weighed only #120. He wore a large chin beard, which he cut off to a gootee as it grew white and as he grew older. He chewed tobacco all his life, then quit abruptly between the ages of 75 and 80.

Eliza stood five foot six, somewhat taller than her husband, and weighed about 150.

Thomas and Eliza moved to Kansas in 1870, on a farm in the western part of Douglas County, a community named Stull. Giving and courteous, opening their home to ones less fortunate, such as the Swadley's, from W. Va., who stayed until they could build their own home. They weathered the Grasshopper Plague in 1874, and the dry years. Thomas retired from the farm after the family was grown, selling to his son, William Thomas. They moved to Lawrence, Kansas and lived a number of years (705 Mississippi St.) in a 9 room house, renting to the students at Kansas University. Thomas enjoyed playing checkers, and was quite good at it. Eliza was always working with her hands with knitting, crocheting, tat, and rug weaving, until "they fairly flew". Even in her later years, plagued with Diabetes and Arthritis, she managed to help with a ring quilt for her grandson, Albert. All the grandchildren had received one.

Once Eliza's sister, Nellie, died, the Ice's moved to Denver, living with their daughter, Dr. Sallie Ice Mebius. Eliza's sister, Sue, went with them.

A grandaughter of Eliza's sister, either Mary or Catherine, was living on the old farm in 1969, stating that the family bural plot is on the farm, containing the remains of many of the family, including Adam and Mary, Eliza's parents. One of Eliza and Thomas's children, George W., died at birth and is buried here.
