Greg:
George M. Plank was born in 1907 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma which at the time was an Osage Indian Reservation. Granpa was part Cherokee, but not enough to own any oil wells, just enough to have brown eyes.

Chad:
Because of Great Grandma Planks ill health, under doctors orders, the family moved to Moison, Washington on a train powered by a steam locomotive. Grandpa was 5 years old at that time. A local minister Claude Pratt, came and prayed for Grandps's mother. She was healed and attended church that night. We believe this experience.

Greg:
Grandpa was a football player during his high school years. He developed his mechanical skills, the hard way, on his Indian and Harley Davidson motorcycles. If they didn;t run, he made them run.

Chad:
After high school, he joined the National Guard and was highly decorated. He became an expert marksman and was honored by being selected to shoot in the "Presidents Hundred Touranment" in Washington D.C.
He worked in a lumber mill and attended college in LeGrand Oregon, where he met the legendary Vera Case who was teaching in a one room country school.

Greg:
Grandpa met Grandma when he brought a friend out to her family's farm house. Thier first date was attending church srevice. Later dates included motorcycle rides with Grandma holding on for daer life. Their first kiss was when, Grandpa asked permission and Grandmareplied, :I can stand it if you can"

Chad:
In 1939, almost 56 years ago, they took family members and quietly slipped away for a private wedding ceremony. The honeymoon was moving into their new home in Nampa, Idaho, where they went to start a new business selling tires and oil.

Greg:
In 1941, Pearl Harbor brought them to Long Beach, California to join the war effort. They both worked at Douglas Aircraft plant. During that time Granpa was trained for tool and die work which he continued nuntil jis retirement. He received many "win the war awards for innovation in tool making.

Chad:
In June 1944, Grandma and Grandpa were blessed with their first major prodution, my mom Bonnie Louise Plank. Closely following, 13 months later, another blessed event turned out Uncle Dean Alan Plank.

Greg:
Mon and Uncle Dean remember how devoted Grandpa was to his family. Their home was in Paramont during those growing up years. Grandpa helped with both Brownies and Cub Scouts. It was on one Brownie camping trip that Grandpa used maple syrup in his coffee because they forgot the sugar. It made him so sick he decided to give up sweetened coffeealtogether.

Chad:
As Mom and Uncle Dean became teenagers, Grandpa became an active sponos of teen activities for the church youth groups. His other church activities included serving on the church board, singing in the choir, sing solos and quartets. He also taught Sunday School classes.

Greg:
Grandpa was a percise, thoughtful and methodical worker. These qualities were a part of what made him successful at work, but he also carried them through into his hobbies. Over the years he did woodworking, carving hunting bows as well as tiny intricate figures; He became a rock hound and made beautiful po;ished rock and gemstone jewelry; He carried his mechanical skills into his hobbies when worked on a steam engine and later a gas saving car engine part. He taught Uncle Dean how to work on cars and fix things. Even more important than that, Grandpa fixed our toys when we broke them and even made a few for us.

Ghad:
Like Will Rogers, Grandpa never met a person he didn't like. Strangers were just opportunities to meet new friends.

Greg:
Grandpa had a heart of gold. He helped everyone. He fixed cars, water heaters, toasters, toys and squeaks. If it was broken, people called Grandpa. He spent most of his leisure time helping someone.

Chad:
Grandpa was a very loving person. He loved God. He loved his wife, He loved his children and he loved us. In many families the sins of the generations are visited on many generations to come. In our family we are very fortunate that the legacy we have inherited from Grandpa Plank is a legacy of love that we will be able to pass along to our children.
