James McGuire and Bridget Moran both born in County Mayo, Ireland and married in Liverpool, England. They arrived in America 1853. They lived for sometime in Pendleton County, Kentucky and moved in a few years to Knox County, Indiana then to Daviess County, Indiana. They raised ten children. Patrick Farrell and Margaret Lannan both born in County Wexford, Ireland immigrating in 1851. They raised their eight children in Barr Township, Daviess County, Indiana. Their son Robert William Farrell married Ellen Theresa McGuire (daughter of James and Bridget McGuire)in Wheatland, Knox County, Indiana at the McGuire home. Robert and Ellen raised eleven children. Ellen Theresa died in Akron, Summit County, Ohio and is buried in Vincennes with her husband in the Farrell Family Plot.

A daughter of Robert Farrell and Ellen Theresa McGuire was Gertude Cecelia Farrell, my grandmother, married Charles Smith son of Sebastian Smith and Lauretta Candice Scott. Charles Smith and Gertrude Farrell were married at the Old Cathedral in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana January 22, 1902. They raised five children.
Gertrude, wife of Charles, died at age 47.

Years passed and in 1931 Charles Smith is laid off from work and moves his family to Akron, Summit County, Ohio. Two of his sons had been in Akron for some time working for the railroad. The sons encouraged the rest of the family to join them in Akron because there was employment. The Smiths packed only their belongings (especially Charles trunk and rocker) that would fit into two cars and headed for Akron.

Once arriving in Akron the Smith family lived together with the James Patrick Farrell family (brother to Charles Smith's wife Gertrude Cecilia Farrell), on a farm on Cuyahoga Street in Akron. Charles and sons built a bedroom in the barn for all of the boys. All of the girls stayed in the house in an upstairs bedroom. One of the boys and one of the girls put on shows and plays for the other kids. They sold tickets for two cents to the plays. Their were twelve Farrell children and the whole Smith Family all in one house. (As remembered by Rita Catherine Farrell Dorner, daughter of James Patrick Farrell.)

In a few years more relatives joined the Smiths and Farrells in Akron, Ohio. The Kassens, Valleleys, and Great Grandma Ellen Theresa McGuire Farrell who wanted to be with her daughter and grandchildren.
