Notes for Alexander Stewart:
It is believed that Alexander was born to Robert Stewart circa 1675 somewhere in Scotland. Because of religious persecution there, he fled first to Ireland and subsequently to the Colony of Connecticut between 1715 and 1719. At least some of their children were born in Ireland. Upon arrival in America, they eventually settled in the area of East Hadden in Middlesex County, Connecticut.
An Alexander Stewart was transported to America in 1716. (Recorded in "Transported Jacobite Rebels" by Clifford Neal Smith. Note: The Jacobites were supporters of the House of Stuart in Scotland who opposed the union of England and Scotland. They were the highlander Scots who rebelled against the English rule in 1715 in support of the Old Pretender, James Edward Stuart.)
Ballymena is a market and post-town and the head of a union in the parish of Kirkinriola, barony of Lower Toome, county of Antrim and province of Ulster, about 21 miles northwest from Belfast and 105 miles north from Dublin.
June 26, 1720, Alexander Stewart and his wife Margaret, members of a church in Ireland being recommended from thence were admitted to our communion. (First Church of Christ, New London, CT. -- [This is probably the first record of the Stewart family in America.]\
On Sept. 15, 1728, Alexander Stewart and his wife were received in full commujion into the church at Voluntown, CT. (Voluntown records>)
