Photo of DICK RUSSELL taken two days before he went into the Army. 1943 ================================================ DARTMOUTH ALUMI MAGAZINE CLASS OF '49 RICHARD SLEEPER RUSSELL of Holden, MA, died July 24, 1995, following a long bout with cancer. He left his wife of 45 years, JANE, son MARK, daughter SUSAN, and three grandchildren. DICK, whose father RAYMOND was Dartmouth '15, was survived by his brother FRANK '51. An army veteran who served in Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland, DICK was a Phi Delt at Dartmouth. After graduation he joined SLEEPER & HARTLEY CORP., a manufacturer of spring-making machinery and wire-mill equipment founded by his grandfather. DICK became a vice president and co-owner, retiring in 1990. ================================================= WORCESTER TELEGRAM & GAZETTE July 26, 1995 RICHARD S. RUSSELL, 70 HOLDEN - RICHARD S. RUSSELL, 70, of 54 Plymouth Road, retired vice president and co-owner of SLEEPER & HARTLEY CORP., died yesterday at the Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Memorial, Worcester, after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 45 years, JANE (LUCE) RUSSELL, a son, MARK R. RUSSELL of Holden; a daughter SUSAN R. OGASIAN of New Braintree; a brother FRANK S. RUSSELL of Northboro; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of RAYMOND F. and ETHEL (SLEEPER) RUSSELL, and lived here since 1969. He graduated from Worcester Academy and Dartmouth College. He was an Army veteran of World War 11, serving in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. Mr. RUSSELL was vice-president and co-ownder of SLEEPER & HARTLEY, CORP. in Worcester for 17 years, retiring in 1990. He had worked there for 40 years. He was a member of the Tatnuck Island Club. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday in Caswell-King Funderal Home, 1147 Main Street. Private burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours.
