Savage Pioneers of Garrett County, Maryland

Updated July 4, 2008

About Our Family Research

Many thousands of Savage families in America are descended from Thomas Savage "The Carpenter" who arrived in the Virginia Colony by 1632 and settled on the Eastern Shore. He is referred to as "The Carpenter" by Virginia historians to distinguish him from his contemporary, "Ensign" Thomas Savage who arrived at Jamestown with Captain Newport. A history of Thomas "The Carpenter" and 13 succeeding generations is included in the book, SAVAGE IS MY NAME by R. Blair Savage. Twenty years of research culminated in the publishing of this book in 1995. Since that time I have concentrated mainly on trying to identify the descendants of ROBINSON T. SAVAGE, SR., the great, great grandson of Thomas Savage. Robinson was one of the early pioneers of what is today, Garrett County (formerly part of Allegany County), Maryland. To date my list of his descendants approaches 4000 names and is being added to regularly.
