We have been researching our family for the past six years and have found lots of information, including that the first Medlins in America of our line supposedly arrived here in 1678 from Cornwall aboard the ship Carolina. Landing in Charles Town, Carolina they were given 200 acres of land but failed to develop it. Subsequently, they migrated north to what was then the Albemarle region where they settled in Granville County and proceeded to raise a family. Their names were Richard, b. April 04, 1647 (we think was a son of one John Medlyn of Wendron or Redruth in Cornwall) and Rachel (we have no virth date for her, nor do we know her surname) Medlin. A son, Richard II, b. about 1680, married Susannah, b. about 1684, whose surname is also unknown. These two were born in New Kent County, VA. Richard and Rachel apparently left Granville and relocated to New Kent County, VA where their children were born.
