Merit Zelotes Southwick was born in Clinton county, N.Y., November 11, 1827. He was married to Ruth Elizabeth Sheffield, January 23, 1858, in Jefferson county, Wis. Mr. Southwick died of partial paralysis incident to old age at Milton Junction, Wis., January 28, 1912, aged 84 years, 2 months, 17 days at the time of his death. He leaves two sisters, three brothers, an adopted daughter, Mrs. G.A. Crandall, four grandchildren, and many relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

His daughter and family have made their home with him for the past five years, caring for him as he was crippled with rheumatism and unable to get out much. May their temder care be rewarded.

In an early day his parents moved from New York and settled in Little Genessee near Milwaukee. For many years the deceased has lived in this vicinity, making his home in Milton Junction for the past twenty-five years.

Mr. Southwick was converted in early life, and his sympathies leaned toward the Adventist faith and at the time of his departure remained strong in the hope of a soon coming Savior and loned for a part in the resurrection. He was a man of prayer and love of the study of the bible. The funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, January 30. Eld, Stebbins of Janesville officiating. Interment in Milton Junction cemetery.
