I, Elijah Sheffield, a Married Man, of the Ccity and, County of Santa Barbara State of California, of the age of Sixty Eight(68) years, and being of sound mind and memory, and not acting under duress, menace, fraud, or undue influence of any person whatever, do make, publish and declare this my last WILL AND TESTAMENT in the manner following, that is to say: -- FIrst, I direct that my Executive herein after named, as soon as practicable after my decease pay the expenses of my last illness, my funeral expenses and my other just debts and liabilities if any there be, out of my Estate and Effects. Secondly, I give devise and bequeath to my beloved Wife Rebecca Sheffield, who has done as much as myself in the accumulation of my Estate and to my two Daughters, Mrs. Cornelia Mary Ann Southwick, at present residing in Minneasota, and Emma A. Sheffield my unmarried Daughter, all of the Personal Property of which I may die possessed to be divided as follows to wit. One half (1/2) of said property to my said wife, Rebecca S. Sheffield, and the balance to be divided equally between my two herein mentioned Daughters, absolutely and forever reserving from the above bequest all my Household Furniture, my Horses, Wheeled Vehicles, Farming Utensils and Hay, all of which (to be?) given to my Wife, Rebecca Sheffield. I having given the Piano to my Daughter Emma during my lifetime. Should any party or parties interested in, or remembered through the operation of this Will, undertake to break the same, then, I order and decree that whatsoever I have given to said party or parties under this Instrument shall go to the other members of my family, mentioned herein, in Equal shares, and all contestants to be forever debarred from any Interest in said Estate. ------------------ Elijah Sheffield 6/20/1890 |
