Descendants of John Claude Simplot

Generation No. 1

      1. John Claude2 Simplot (Phillipe1) was born March 07, 1777 in Besancon, France, and died August 1830. He married (2) Francois Colard January 03, 1803 in Besancon, France, daughter of John Colard and Ann Chaillet. She was born May 03, 1776 in Sceyen Varais, France, and died January 14, 1813 in Besancon, France. He married (3) Mercy Simons 1829. He married (4) Susan Simon Unknown. She died in The late 1820's.

Notes for John Claude Simplot:
John's marriage to Susan Simon was not recorded. There is no record of this marriage.

John and Susan migrated to the United States around 1816-1817. They settled in Constantia, Oswego County, New York. On July 24, 1820 Henry, John and Joesph followed, landing at the Port of New York on the ship Stephania. Napolean apparently died either on the voyage or shortly after their arrival.
In Constantia the Simplots farmed and prospered to the extent that between 1824 and 1827 he was able to purchase three land deals totaling 173 acres in Oswego County.
By 1830 the family had moved to Parish, a community a few miles north of Constantia. In 1825 there was enacted a law in New York forbidding the passage by inheritance of land owned by aliens who had not filed their formal Declaration of Intention to become a citizen. Perhaps anticipating his death, John Simplot did so on February 2 , 1831. He died the following August and is buried in the cemetery at Colosse, near Parish. His tombstone reads " John Simplot, Died August 1830 , Aged 51 years. Erected by his son, Joesph Simplot". \
Mercy Simplot and Joesph Torry were appointed Administrators of the intestate estate. The land was lost in a legal battle following Mr. Simplot's death, and the family soon headed west.
