SIMMS FAMILY
Franklin Simms parentage is unknown. He first shows up in the 1870 census in Gallia Co., Ohio. Tradition states that he had a brother who fought in Custer's Army. I found an Elias Sims who was born in 1849 in Gallia Co., Ohio who served during the same time as Custer's Last Stand. I have not been able to find either of them in the 1850 nor 1860 census records. News Flash! Found an Elias Sims born in 1849 in Ohio residing in Texas in 1900. This same Elias Sims had re-enlisted into the Army at Fort Hamilton, married, then left with the regiment. Once at Fort Sam Houston, he sent word home that he was dead. Story published in Brooklyn newspaper.
NICHOLS FAMILY
Family Tradition states that the Nichols Family came over with William Penn and settled in Pennsylvania. They eventually came to Wheeling, Virginia (now West Virginia). They came further west to Muskingum Co., Ohio. Thomas Jefferson Nichols married and settled briefly at Thornville, Perry Co., Ohio. Then he bought land and settled at Rocky Fork, Licking Co., Ohio.
