Singleton Coat of Arms

Singleton Coat of Arms
Heraldry dates from about the year 1200 AD and had its origin in the days of the use of coat armour when it was necessary in battle to use some outward sign on the shield, worn on the left arm, to distinguish persons as friends or foes. The shields were of various shapes on which the armorial designs were inscribed. Above the shield or helmet, the crest was attached by a piece of thin metal. The persons wearing the armour were known as knights or men at arms.
