"The Ira Murphy Birdsong Family of Arkansas "

Updated January 4, 2003

About Our Family Research

I am researching the BIRDSONG family from Arkansas.

Ira Murphy(Bud)Birdsong, born June 7, 1922 in Grubbs,(Jackson County), Arkansas. Married, Mildred Ora Trotter, born December 8, 1923 in Weiner,(Poinsett County),Arkansas. They were married September 5, 1942 in Poinsett County, Arkansas. Ira and Mildred, lived in the Weiner, AR. area until Ira retired. They moved to Heber Springs,(Cleburne CO.)AR.

They have 4 children: Murphy, Eugene, Lillie and Ira Birdsong.

We knew very little about my grandfather, Murphy Birdsong. He and my grandmother, Laura White were married in Newport, AR. July 17, 1921. Murphy was killed in an auto accident November 9, 1924. Leaving behind a wife and a small son.

In addition to my search, I have been in contact with Murphy's family in Newport, AR.. It is believed that Miles Jefferson Birdsong is Murphy's father. In the 1910 census, Murphy Birdsong, head of household- 35, with his wife at that time, Martha age 23, and a small child Violet age 1 8/12. His 3 brothers and a sister living with him, were much younger. Sarah Birdsong 19, Thomas Birdsong 17, John Birdsong 15 and Mattie Birdsong 12.. The 1920 census show Thomas Birdsong 27, with his wife and children.

Any information about these Birdsong's would be greatly appreciated.

Lil Smith
