In 1685 Isacc's family was martyred by the Roman Catholics, he alone escaped "with difficulty" as he himself stated, from being killed along with the rest of the family. All that he saved out of his wrecked home was his father's Bible, published in Geneva in 1608. This he cherished and preserved through al his flights from France, through Bavaria, Holland and England, until he made his home Strasburg Township, Lancaster County, PA., in 1712. He had the Bible by his side until in his eighty-third yer, when his body was laid to rest. It is now in the library of the Lancaster County Historical Society, Lancaster, PA.

Fled to Bavaria, only child of Abraham LeFevre to escape martyrdom. Founder of the Pennsylvania LeFevre's. From a statement made by his grandson John LeFevre, who knew him for 20 years, Isaac was "lively, active, and took a great deal of exercise. even in his old age, and was very temperate." He prospered in his new home and at the time of his death, owned about 1,500 acres of land.

His cemetery plague reads; " "Isaac LeFevre, our American ancestor, escaped from persecution and death in France in 1685. Came to America in 1708 and settled here in Pequea Valley 1712."

This farm including the LeFevre cemetery has been the home of seven generations of LeFevres. Since it was bought by Isaac LeFevre of 1669 from William Penn who bought it from the Pequea Indians in 1682.

Isaac LeFevre founder of the LeFevre family in Pennsylvania, lived near Strasburg in France. Being Protestants most of the family were killed at the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. He, with other Huguenots escaped to Bavaria. In 1708 he left for America and arrived at New York, Dec. 31, 1708. He lived at Esopus, NY 3 years. Then in 1712 he and the Ferree family came to Lancaster County as the Pioneer settlers of Pequea Valley, buying 2300 acres."

This cemetery is part of the LeFevre farm of 318 acres, surveyed Oct. 18, 1716 and deeded to Isaac LeFevre Nov. 1, 1716. The first tract he bought was deeded September 10, 1712." He had an estate probated on 5 Oct 1751 in Lancaster Co, PA.

Isaac LeFevre 1699-1751 fled from Chateau-Chinon, France age about 16, barely escaping Roman Catholic execution. Was adopted by Daniel and Marie Ferree. On August 25, 1708- renounced original citizenship & swore allegiance to England.

Isaac LeFevre, founder of the Pennsylvania family of LeFevres, died in Strasburg Township, PA. But the place of his burial cannot be definitely stated. However, since a place of burial had already been selected for his son Abraham who had died sixteen years previously, it is believed that he too is buried in the same place. Originally, there were thought to be two very old unmarked graves here which were thought to be those of Isaac and Catherine. This burial ground is now known as the LeFevre Cemetery and is located about one mile north of Strasburg, PA. In it rest the remains of more than thirty of the early LeFevres, and if Isaac is buried here, it contains seven generations.

4. MARIE CATHERINE 'MARY'3 FERREE (DANIEL2, JEAN1 LA VERREE) was born Bet. 1683 - 1685 in Rhine Country France4, and died Bef. 1745 in Lancaster, Lancaster Co, PA. She married THOMAS FAULKNER5 June 30, 1715 in Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE. He was born Abt. 1686 in Salisbury, Lancaster Co, PA, and died May 28, 1752 in Bucks Co, PA.

Notes for M
ARIE CATHERINE 'MARY' FERREE:
FIRST - HERE IS SOME OF THE INFORMATION I FOUND ON THE INTERNET.

She was married to Thomas FAULKNER. Ref. Book D, 394; 1754 Recorder's Office, Lancaster Co., PA and Ref. Book D, Page 18; 1730 Recorder's Office, Lancaster Co., PA. Thomas FAULKNER was born in 1686.

Notes for Mary Catherine Ferree:
MARY CATHERINE FERREE b. 1683-1685 in Rhine Country France, and died March 28, 1752 in Lancaster. She married THOMAS FAULKNER June 30, 1715 in Immanuel Episcopal Ch, New Castle Co. De , son of Daniel Faulkner and Unknown Wife. Ref. Book D, 394; 1754 Recorder's Office, Lancaster Co., PA and Ref. Book D, Page 18; 1730 Recorder's Office, Lancaster Co., PA. Thomas FAULKNER was born in 1686. (Although the Marriage is recorded in Lancaster Pa, the record of the marriage is in the Church records of Immanuel Episcopal Ch. (Old Swedes Church,Christiana DE,) This is not uncommon for the marriage to be recorded in two places. After being married in DE they could have also recorded the marriage in the place where they resided, PA.

Mary Catherine Ferree Faulkner's mother and father were Daniel Fuehres (Ferree later) and Anna Maria Warembuer Ferree. She was born in 1653 d. 1716. When Louis IV revoked the Edict of Nantes which granted religious freedom, he sent soldiers to all towns and villages to kill the protestants and confiscate their properties. Danniel and Maria escaped to Germany and there is where Mary C. was born. Daniel died about 1707 (They were married in 1669) and Marie and her three boys & one girl escaped to England by way of Netherlands. Queen Anne gave them sanctuary and when they finally got to come to America, Marie's family was among the first 5000 of 150,000 to leave. They arrived in NY in1709 on the "Lyon". Anna Maria Ferree was the founder of the Pequea Valley PA Huguenot colony in1712----then Chester Co, and eventually Lancaster Co. Wm Penn gave her 2400 acres and she vested in trustees a piece of land for a cemetery and she is buried in the SE corner - Rupp's "History of Lancaster County."

AND NOW, AN EMAIL RESPONSE FROM A SERIOUS RESEARCHER

Mike,
I may have already contacted you. I am researching the above line and making corrections with documentation. Many things have and continued to be passed around on this family with no real concern for their true accuracy. Being a very serious researcher I want my genealogy correct and documented with all possible sources. Therefore, I will just mention a few items that I am working on and I will send you documents to show my corrections. It will be awhile before I can get the family completely documented and corrected.

1. We know that Mary did not died 28 March 1752. There are several deeds for showing that this is incorrect. Thomas Faulkner and his WIFE JANE/JEAN sell property
in Lanaster Co. in the 1740's. Mary had died some time before 1745 and Thomas had remarried. However, we have not been able to find this second marriage recorded.

2. Mary did NOT die in Northumberland Co. PA. She died in Lancaster. Thomas did NOT move to BUCKS Co. (which became NORTHHAMPTON Co in 1752) until the 1740's after the sell of the Lancaster Co. property. (As you can see neither of them was ever connected to Northumberland Co.)

3. You have Mary down as being married twice, but to Thomas. I am not sure that I completely understand what you meant as I have not seen anything like this before. At present the ONLY marriage record of any type is the BANNS found in the Immanual Church in Wilmington, New Castle, DE. We have NOT found any civil record in PA. I am going to check out these DEED books again that are supposed to have their civil marriage in them. I find this a hard concept to believe. I know that it has been done in other instances, but so far nothing has appeared in Lancaster Co. according to our resident researcher. I am going to double check to be sure.

4. We do NOT know the birth date of Thomas Faulkner. We do NOT know who his parents were. Daniel Faulkner was a GERMAN and a travel agent. He helped spread the news and drummed up business for William Penn's colony. He and his brother, Justus, are mentioned in several references for their work in getting the Palatines to the Penn Colony. There is another Mary and Thomas Faulkner that are NOT to be confused with our Mary and Thomas which they have been on some occassions. I believe that this other Thomas' father was a Thomas. Mary only married once to Thomas Faulkner in 1715 and their BANNS are published in the Immanuel Chruch in DE which has used the SAME name for four centuries.

Our Thomas did die in Bucks Co. in 1752. However, before they could settle the estate a new county was formed from Bucks and they chose to finish the probate in Philadelphia. We do not know when nor where he was born. We are working on the theory that his father was Jesse Faulkner of London in which case would mean that Thomas could have been born in London. Jesse and Faulkner are two given names that are handed down for many generations. As you can see Thomas named his son JESSE. Jesse is NOT a Ferree name.

Now, Immanuel Church of New Castle Co. Is NOT Old Swedes Church of Christina, DE. The Immanuel Church was formed in the late 1660's and the first permanent structure was built in 1703. I have no idea who dreamed this up. It shows a complete lack of researching.

5. Marie and her remaining single children boarded one of eleven ships sailing to PA. However, they were delayed and did not leave the harbor until April, 1710. Again someone has not done their research. She went over with newly elected Gov. Hunter and appears on the Hunter Rolls as arriving in NY in 1710. We have NO idea as to which ship she was on.

6. And, of course, Marie Ferree was NOT granted land in Lancaster Co. Lancaster Co. was not formed until 1729 which was much later than her death of 1716. If you don't go to Chester Co. you will miss a lot of records. Telling people to just go straight to Lancaster Co. records is incorrect.

I'll get what documents I have in the mail soon. I would appreciate your corrections.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I may not have all of the answers, but I will try and find them if I don't know.

Thanks.
Eleanor
