 Includes NotesNotes for David Snowden:
Their first born was David. He was born circa 1759 near Perth Amboy, N.J. and he died June 2, 1839 in Estill County, KY. He married Nancy Hazelrigg, April 1782, in Washington, County, PA. David was a Private in the Revolutionary War as a Indian Spy. He served in the Pennsylvania Line. He was a Patriot. He was Patriot pensioned, his widow Nancy was pensioned, his children were not pensioned, however his heirs are pensioned. You may be able to send to the National Archives to get his pension. It was unusual to find a patriot who was a spy. His handwritten pension papers are on file with the National Archives, pension file #W9308. David was used by a DAR, (Daughters of the American Revolution) member. The information listed in the DAR Patriot Index (3 Volumes) is as follows: "David Snowden born 1759 , PA, died 6-2-1839 in KY. Married Nancy Hazelrigg. He was a Private, a Spy and his widow received a pension." A major genealogy library would have a microfilm of the Patriot pension record, which will provide useful information as well as proof of service. To become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), you must be a female lineal descendant of a patriot, in this case David Snowden. In the lineage that is being followed here, David is not a direct lineage, so you could not use him. If David Snowden would be your great..something, grandfather you could use him to become a DAR member. Contact the DAR if you would like to join, under any lineage you feel you may have with a patriot. If you would like a copy of the application with the patriots, informaion, you may request a copy from (DAR) National Headquarters. Please make a check in the amount of the $5.00 payable to the Treasurer General. Mail the check along with the information on your patriot to: Record's Copy Dept., Treasurer General NSDAR, Administration Bldg., 1776 D St NW., Washington D.C. 20006-5392. You can also go to this address http://www.sar.org/hq/staff.htm to join or inquire and see if the fees are still the same, etc. Also Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will accept a Record copy of a DAR application as proof for those generations that are common. There will be a stamp in the upper left hand corner when you order the application from DAR stating it is a "Record Copy" and this is what SAR requires. One cautions' IF this is a very old DAR application it will not have places of birth and death for the various generations, and is less useful. You would need to complete the research to fill in the missing information. WRITE TO: NSDAR Office of the Registrar General, Att: Record Copy, 1776 D. Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006-5303. As of this writing, enclose a check for $5.00 made payable to Treasurer General NSDAR. Requests take about six weeks. The SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) will be pleased to have men as members.
