1. ABRAHAM¹ BARGER was born 1786 in North Carolina, and died September 1, 1848 in Perry Co. Kentucky. He married MARY BOWLING 1810 in Wise Co. Virginia, daughter of JESSE BOWLING and MARY PENNINGTON. She was born March 1, 1788 in North Carolina, and died September 24, 1884 in Perry Co. Kentucky.

Abraham Barger remains a mystery until this day...we know he married Mary Bowling ca1810
in Wise,Virginia,beyond that we have no information on him at all...there are rumors to the fact that he
may have changed his name to Barger from Barrier when he came to Kentucky...Abraham and Mary lived between
Leatherwood Creek and the Turkey Branch...they are buried high on the point,directly across the Buckhorn Lake from the mouth of Leatherwood Creek...it is a pretty spot that overlooks the lake and from
the cemetery,you can look directly at the Buckhorn Lodge...

Others buried on the cemetery,include Abraham's son Samuel,his daughter Hannah,and her husband
Nelson Gay, Nelson's second wife Charity Bowling and Nelson's son Henry Clay Gay...

Notes for MARY BOWLING:
All we have to go on,for birth and death dates,for Mary Polly Bowling are what is published in the census
records...In the 1850 Perry County Census,this would have been approx two years after her husband
Abraham Barger died,she is living with her daughter Elizabeth Barger Brewer,and her age is 62 years old.
She would have been born in 1788...nothing further is recorded about her until the 1880 Perry County
Census,she is living with her son Jesse Barger and her age is listed as 98 years old,this would make
her birthdate 1782...William O`Connor,in his book,Dozens of Cousins,has her born in 1785...I tend to go
with the 1788-1790 age range because if she married Abraham Barger in Wise,Virginia in 1810,this
would have made her 20-22 years old...In this particular time period, when anyone older than 16-18
years old was almost an Old Maid,she would have passed that by many years...
