Introduction

Nancy Newland, my third cousin, is the researcher who gathered almost all of the information within this report. The following is the wonderful "surname summary" she wrote that details the whereabouts of these early ancestors of ours.

Antle

In 1752 Peter Antle shipped out from Rotterdam, Holland on the ship "Phoenix", sailed thru Cowes, Isle of Wight, to Philadelphia. Took qualification at a council in Philadelphia on Wednesday, 22 Nov 1752. He had to swear allegience to the King of England. Present was Joshua Maddox, Esquire. The immigrants taking their oaths were Swiss, Franch, German and Dutch. They came out of Europe down the Rhine River to Rotterdam. This journey took 8 to 12 weeks. Then they waited 6 or 8 weeks to ship out from there. Ships ran mainly from May to October. Peter Antle settled in Winchester Township, Frederick County, Virginia, probably on Opequan Creek near the village of Opequon. His will is dated 16 Nov 1769 and was proved 6 Mar 1771 in Winchester. His will names his children, probably all under 21. His wife Ann and John Abrell are executors. The will was witnessed by James Abrell, Ben Ettedger, John Godfrey. It is thought that Ann's maiden name was Abrell.

Henry Antle, son of Peter and Ann, was a soldier in the Revolution. On 27 Apr 1781 he, Mathias Hover, John Adam Hoke and Michael Sommers were paid 150 pounds for seven and one-half bushels of wheat for the Army in Virginia. Before 1800 Henry Antle had a deed for 200 acres of second-rate land on the waters of Crocus Creek, a branch of the Cumberland River, in Green County, Kentucky. By 1805 he had died in Green County.

Katherine "Keaty" Antle, Henry's daughter, married John Davis/Davies, of Welsh descent, in Lincoln Co., KY in 1797. He died in 1822 leaving a widow and nine children, some quite young. Keaty and her children and her brothers and other relatives soon set out for Sangamon County, Illinois. It was there she spent the remainder of her life.

Mary Davis was newly married to Richard Walker when her father died. The young couple accompanied her mother to Sangamon County, but soon they had settled in Bond County, there to remain for the rest of their lives.

Note: This report includes seven generations. Later generations continue under the Diamond surname and can be seen in the Diamond report.
