Rudbaxton Church - The Lady Chapel
|
|

My ancestor the Rev. Philip Elliot was Rector of Rudbaxton Church from 1743 - 1766.
This is the monument to the Hayward Family of Fletherhill. It was erected by Joanna Hayward, wife of James Hayward who died in 1668, in rememberance of her husband James, her son Thomas, who was killed in a duel in 1682 and to her daughter Mary (Mrs. Tasker) who died in 1685 and to a George Hayward who died in 1665 (probably a brother of James Hayward).
I have no direct links to this family but found the monument of interest and decided to include it on this website.
Also in the Lady Chapel there is a bust of General Sir Thomas Picton of Poyston Hall who was baptised in Rudbaxton Church in 1758 and who was killed at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. He would probably have been baptised by my ancestor the Rev. Philip Elliot.
