Notes for EDWARD OUTLAW I:
Edward I, as a young teen, and his brother Captain John Outlaw came to Virginia about 1665. In 1668, John and Edward illegally killed a steer but only John was fined, indicating that Edward was still under aged, In 1673, Edward Outlaw of the Western Branch of Norfolk Co. VA. was summoned for not keeping up with his roads. In 1674, Edward I was paid a bounty for a wolf's head. He is referred to as a mariner on 15 Jan. 1678 when he received 100 acres of land for "importing" himself twice. Importing meaning he did something of importance!! On that same day a Dennis Ashley received 100 acres also. The next day, Francis Thelabell and his wife Sarah deeded to Dennis and Edward 300 acres. On August 4, 1680, Edward and his wife Elizabeth Dafnell deeded 150 acres to John Booth. On April 20, 1682, Dennis Ashley and Edward Outlaw received a grant for 556 acres which they divided on Nov. 1682. On Jan 16, 1709/10 one of the Edward Outlaw was licensed to keep an Ordinary in Norfolk Co, Va. Edward Outlaw I wrote his will ( written and signed by his own hand) on December 19, 1713 and it was proved 17 Dec. 1714. Ref. "The Outlaw Family of Virginia by Benjamine B. Holtzclaw; publ by Bodie Vol XVI.
"Edward Outlaw I of Elizabeth Parish, Lower Norfolk, VA. was a mariner and purchased jointly with Dennis Ashley 300 acres in 1678 called Beach Ridge, at the western branch of the Elizabeth River in said county" In 1682, they were granted by Sir Henry Chickley, His Majesty's Deputy Governor,
156 acres adjoining that which they had already bought from the Thelabell, "due them by and for the transportation of five persons and C"

He married PATIENCE WHITFIELD 1736 in Bertie Co., NC, daughter of WILLIAM WHITFIELD and MARY GOODMAN. She was born 1718 in Bertie CO., NC, and died Aft. 1759.

Edward Outlaw III owned large tracts of land in Bertie Co, NC and later he received land grants in New Hanover Co, NC (which is now Duplin CO. NC
