ILLIAM WHITFIELD I:
William may have been born in LAncashire, England and later came to Nasemond Co., VA in the early part of the 18th C. and settled in Nasemond, VA. After his marrige in 1713, he settled in Bertie Co. NC and eventually moved to Rockford, Lenoir CO, NC

The Whitfields came from Lancashire, England. Whitfield is of Danish origin. John Whitfield and his brother WIlliam WHitfield left Denmark with the Arny of the King of the Normans and came to England. Fought in the Battle of the Hastings in 1066. Settled in Lancaster. Their descendants were scattered all over England. George Whitfield must have been the first to ccome to America, as his name appears on the register of the first permanent English settlement in America in 1607.

Nathan Whitfield, a descendant of Sit Thomas Whitfield was knighted in 1606 and came to America in the early 17th C. He left his son WIlliam Whitfield to finish his education at Minster. The king's officesrs tried to put him in the aramy but he evaded them by sailing to America in his own ship "The Prosperous". He settled in Nasemond Co VA. William Whitfield married ELizabeth Goodman of Gates County in 1713. After his marriage he settled in Bertie County, NC. Both were murdered by the Indians while they were moving to join their son William II at Rockford, Lenoir CO. NC( Th account of the murder was given by Mrs Lucy Wooten, a daughter of Needham Whitfield and Lucy Harch.) William and ELizabeth had fou8r sons, Wiliam II, Matthew, Like, and Constantine; six daughters: Mary, Patience, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah and Charity.

William WHitfield II married Rachel Bryan and moved to Richlands, NC on the Neuse River. In 1743 he built "White Hall" a very handsome house which stood at Seven Springs, NC. He was a member of the colonial Assembly, a memeber of the Committee of Safety and also a member of the Council of State in 1779. He was a prosperous planter and slave holder. He furnished supplies and ferriage for the patriot cause in the Revolution.

Williams parents were Nathan Whitfield, born abt 1640 and Priscilla Lawrence.

William II was a prosperous planter and member of the Colonial Assembly, Committee of Safety and the Council of State in 1779. He furnished supplies and ferriage for the patriot cause.
His beautiful plantation home was called "White Hall" on the Neuse River.
