6. JOHN⁶ HIGGINBOTHAM (CHARLES⁵, JOHN⁴, JOHN³, ANTHONY², NICHOLAS¹) was born June 10, 1695 in Whitestown, Ireland or Barbadoes BWI, and died 1760 in Amherst Co VA.. He married FRANCES RILEY 1713 in Amherst Co VA.. She was born in Ireland.

Notes for JOHN HIGGINBOTHAM:
John Higginbotham and his wife Frances came from Ireland about 1730. They settled in the western part of Goochland Co. VA, which later became Albemarle Co. VA in 1744. John and his family lived near Three Ridges Mountain in present day Nelson CO. VA

Another branch of the family settled in Ireland and among the records of the family preserved in the Public Record Office of Dublin, is the original will of a Cromwelliam soldier, John Higginbotham, or Hitchenbothom, of Staples troop, probated in the year 1656. Many members of the family lived in Barbados and moved back and forth from the British Isles and BWI.

John came to Virginia about 1735 and contracted for land in Rutlaedge Creek (2, 430 acres). This land was conveyed to his son Moses in 1745. Moses partitioneed the land among his brothers and sisters, probably after the death of his mother, Frances Riley, who was not mentioned in this partition as recieveing a dower.

Tradition has it that John came to America with his wife and five children: John. Moses. Aaron, James (Rev Soldier), and Anne. Four others were born in Virginia. Joseph, Benjamin, Rachel, and Thomas. They came on the ship "William and Mary"

John's ancestry id strengthened by the finding of an old book dated 1662 with the signature of Nicholas Higginbotham in the flyleaf. This was found in an old trunk beloingong to Col. John Higginbotham, son of Frances and John.

7. MOSES⁷ HIGGINBOTHAM (JOHN⁶, CHARLES⁵, JOHN⁴, JOHN³, ANTHONY², NICHOLAS¹) was born Abt. 1720 in Ireland-came to America about 1730, and died Abt. 1790 in Glasgow, Amherst CO VA. (then Albemarle CO VA). He married FRANCES KYLE August 19, 1750 in Albemarle CO . VA, daughter of ROBERT KYLE and BETTY BARCLAY). She was born Abt. 1734 in Viriginia, and died May 30, 1825 in At her residence near Glasgow, Amherst Co., VA..

Notes for MOSES HIGGINBOTHAM:
Moses left a large estate which is now mostly in the Sweet Briar College Estate, Amherst CO VA> The creelk boundries of the estate that are mentioned in Moses' will are Rutledge Creed, branches of Haris Creek and the south side of Buffalo Creek.
In 1745, Moses Higginbotham cleared a road from his mill across Buffalo Creek to a road near Harris Creek in what is now Amherst CO, VA.

His will disposes many interesting belongings including 13 slaves, 1004 acres of land, horses, sheep, cattle, hogs, blacksmith tools, 2 feather beds, and a still. His will was probated in Amherst Co., VA on Feb 7,1791

From the will of Moses:
"being very sick. To wife Frances HIggiinbotham, six Negros and 204 a. of land, where I now live and personal estate during her widowhood or life.
To son Joseph 200 a of land and one Negro
To sons Robert, Moses, William 200 a of land and a Negro each
To Charles and daughters, Rachel and Frances Higginbotham land and slaves. TO son Joseph and CHarles all blacksmith tools, one whipsaw to be used in common between Joseph, CHarles, and WIlliam.
