Elder, Theron Drew, father, brother, friend, died at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 1996, from lymphoma. He was born June 1, 1904 to James Leslie and Carrie Maude Elder in Coyle, Oklahoma Territory. His wife, Bretta O. Elder, preceded him in death. He is survived by a sister, Ruby Day, and a brother James D. Elder, both of the Oklahoma City area. He is also survived by a son, James T. Elder and his wife Jean, 4 grandchildren and their spouses Cynthia Ann Dicken and her husband Gary of Idaho Springs, CO.; Michael D. Elder and his wife Sheri; James Patrick Elder and his wife Tami; and William I. Elder, all of the Oklahoma City area; also 6 great grandchildren, J. Chris Ryan, and J. Paul, E. Erin, P. Ben, Clayton D. and Brittan N. Elder. Elder was a retired banker, spending 46 years in the profession, working at several banks that would become the First National Bank and Trust Company of Oklahoma City, and rising to vice president and department head prior to retirement. He served on the Board of Directors of two national banking groups. In his younger days, he played baseball and basketball in the local area. A professional baseball contract was once offered to him. In later days, he became an avid bowler. He was a co-founder of the Oklahoma City All-Sport Association. He was active in various civic groups, the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, and several of the Oklahoma governors' committees seeking to bring new commerce to Oklahoma City and Oklahoma. He was on the first solicitation team raising funds for the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and was a lifetime member. Elder was a 65 year member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA, Valley of Guthrie, Siloam Lodge 276, and Order of Eastern Star, Siloam Chapter 463. He made friends across the United States as he pursued an active interest in genealogy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to the National Cancer Society or a favorite charity in his name. Services to be held at Central Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 1996. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery of Oklahoma City.
