Thomas E. Tagney b 15 May 1818 Sheffield, England was also the son of a Thomas Tagney. No more is known about the father except that he was a musician in the British Army, as was one of his brothers, migrated to Canada in 1833, taught music then returned to England. We know nothing of his wife, Thomas' mother, or number of children they may have had. Young Thomas preferred to remain in this country, and continued for a short time with his uncle in Canada. We have no clues to the uncle's name or location in Canada. Thomas married Alice Steele in 1847, place unknown. She was the daughter of Hugh & Mary Steele. She was born May 1828 in Scotland. Her parents immigrated to Canada from North Ireland. All this was found in the Album of Genealogy and Biography, Cook Co., Ill. published 1897. Thomas and Alice had seven children:
