Descendants of Edmund L. Tiner

Generation No. 1

1. EDMUND L.1 TINER was born Bet. 1810 - 1817 in Tennessee, and died WFT Est. 1874-1918. He married (1) LUCINDA. She was born Abt. 1827 in Missouri, and died Bet. 1860 - 1870. He married (2) RUTH CRABTREE May 24, 1870 in Grayson County, TX (Source: Grayson Co, TX Marriage Records, Book II, p 233, Marriage license applied for on May 23, 1870 at the Lamar County Courthouse in Sherman, TX, county clerk S. Bostick. Married by William England the next day, May 24, 1870.). She was born May 25, 1826 in Washington Co., Illinois, and died Bef. 1916 in Grayson Co., TX.

Notes for E
DMUND L. TINER:
1850 McDonald Co., Missouri Census taken on September 25, 1850 shows Edward Tyner age 29, Farmer, value of real estate $200.00, from TN. Lucinda, age 22 from AR, William J., age 6, MO, Joseph H., age 3, Mo, and Sarah A, age 1, Mo.

November 1, 1852 Edmund purchased 40 acres in McDonald Co., Missouri. Edmund would have been about age 31, Lucinda 24, William J. 8, Joseph H. 5, Sarah A. 3, George W. 1, Burrel A. would be a few months old, Jasper & Melissa would not yet be born. Since William J. is the oldest child, then it stands to reason that Edmund & Lucinda were married at least 8 years earlier in 1843, or before.

1860 McDonald Co., Missouri Census shows Edmund age 43, Farmer from TN, wife Lucinda age 33 from Missouri, son Jackson W. age 15 (MO), Joseph W. age 13 (MO), Sarah A. age 12 (MO), George W. age 9 (MO), Burrel A. age 8 (MO), Jasper N. age 5 (MO) and Mo. L. age 2 male (MO).
Note: At the time of a census if a child was unnamed or if the census taker did not understand the name it was a common practice to use the name of the sate instead. In this case the youngest male in the household looks like "Missouri " L. We see in the 1870 Cooke Co., Texas Census that this child is most likely John L. ---BTH

November 2, 1870 Cooke Co., Texas Census shows Edmund age 60, farm laborer (AL)?, son Jackson W. age 26 (MO), Sarah A. age 23 (MO) keeping house, George W. age 20 (MO) farm laborer, Burrel A. age 18 (MO) work on farm, Jasper N. age 16 (MO) work on farm, John L. age 12 (MO) at home, and the addition of Thomas J. age 7 (MO) at home and Lissa E. age 6 (Choctaw Nation) at home.
**Edmund shows here a 17 year jump in age rather than 10. Perhaps the census taker misunderstood or Edmund might not have been home that day or even in the household for that matter since he and Ruth Crabtree married earlier in May of that year in Grayson Co. The information provided could have been provided by one of the kids. Lucinda of course is not shown in the household. We think that she might have died giving birth to Lissa E. (Melissa) on the the Choctaw Nation. Joseph W. is now 23 and not in the household. Also notice that William J is now referred to as Jackson W.
Edmund shows he was born in TN in both the 1850 and 1860 Missouri Census. In the 1870 is lists AL.
Genealogy research has proven that it is usually more accurate to accept information about age and place of birth from earlier census records than in the later years.

Notes for R
UTH CRABTREE:
Per Winfrid Tipton, this information is from a book by Ruth Cromwell-Crabtree:
Ruth & Malinda Crabtree are twins, born 1826 in Washington, Co. Illinois.
Their parents are William Crabtree & Mary London Lee. After their mother died Ruth went to live with her sister Rebecca and her young husband William D. Crabtree while her father and step-mother lived in Newton Co., MO. She came by wagon train to Greenville in Hunt Co., TX with them about 1859. She was reunited with her twin Malinda, who was the first bride in Hunt Co., TX records. Malinda married Simon Odell on October 8, 1847. Ruth moved on to Grayson Co. TX with Rebecca and William D. Crabtree. The Crabtree and Odell families came down in a wagon train about the time of the Mexican War. Simon may have been lost in the years of the Civil War, for in the 1870 Census Malinda and her family are in Grayson Co. TX with Ruth and her family. Ruth married Edmund L . Tiner May 24, 1870 in Grayson Co. Texas. Malinda was still alive in the 1880 Census, however she made no statement as to where her parents were born. Malinda's children were, Lucy J. Odell, Mary E. Odell, Sarah A. Odell, James W. Odell, Rebecca Odell and Mark Odell. Ruth and Edmund are buried in Horseshoe Bend on the Red River in Grayson Co., TX. Six children are Burl, Jack, George, Dude, Tom and Millissie Tiner.
*Note: The Crabtree family must have thought the six children to be that of Edmund and Ruth, but we know for a fact that they are Edmund's and Lucinda's. At the time Ruth married Edmund she would have been 44 and he 50-60. We do not have record as yet if they had children.--BTH
