Tiner of Seagoville, Arthur & Warren Tiner both of Athens, 2 daughters Mrs. Ida Lee McCool of Athens and Mrs. Jewell Sisson of Corsicana, 3 brothers Charlie Tiner of Houston, Joe Tiner of LaRue and George Tiner of Trinity, two sisters Mrs. Maybelle Wheeler of Athens and Mrs. Ardie Miller of LaRue and 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. T.L. Slimp officiating and burial was in Davis Cemetery. Hassell and Foster in charge. Pallbearers were Murrel Carnes, Wyatt Baily, Tom Hughes, Garvin Thompson, Woodrow Neely and Walter Howard.

A story shared by Chris Tiner Bearden: I remember when I was a child I was scared stiff of that man. I don't know why, not even then, I just knew that I was scared of him. He called me "Punchey" (or maybe it is spelled Punchie). They lived in the house on the hill by Arthur & Inez. He had a piece of an old wagon, the wheels I remember looked like the kind that is on the old covered wagons. He had made himself a make-shift bed on it. He would go out there during the day and lay down on it. He was almost deaf. He had a hearing aide, but even with that we had to yell at him. On days that were sort-of-cool, he would wear his coat, sometimes sitting by the fire in the front room. When everyone came over to Grandma & Grandpa's house, we would all sit down in the front room and talk. He would try to get me to come over to where he was sitting in the rocking chair. I would not do it. For some reason, I was too scared. As I got older, the being scared faded. That man would not have hurt me for all the gold on earth. Then they moved into Athens, by the railroad track. I still know where that house was sitting. The street is still there, the railroad tracks are still there. I don't know the name of the street, but I could take you right to it. I have a picture of Grandma and Grandpa sitting on the porch of that house.

ARAH ESTELLE SMITH:
Source: Henderson Co. Death Records. Estelle passed away at Henderson Co. Memorial Hospital due to Pneumonia and Urinary Track Infection. Other contributing factors were CHF and Renal Failure. Her residence was the Athens Nursing Home at 305 S. Palestine, Athens, TX. Foster & Brown handled the funeral arrangements.

I remember on weekends my mother would drop me off at the nursing home and I would stay all day with her just playing the piano and bingo. I loved her so. - - Diantha Miller Shugart.

When I was in the fourth grade our class was studied China in Geography. Our teacher decided we would have a Chinese Tea Party. She told us we could wear kimmonno's if we had one. My school was about 2 blocks from grandma's house so I stayed with her after school until Dad came to pick me up after he got off work. I went to grandma's that day and told her what we were doing. She offered to make me a kimmono. I was so excited. She measured me and designed it herself. No pattern! She sewed the entire thing by hand! I asked her why she wasnt using her treddle machine and she said it made he knee hurt. The kimmono was beautiful. It was a sage green and white pattern with a pink silk cumberbund, flowing sleeves and all. I was so happy. I wore it to our tea party and was so proud of what my grandmother had made for me. My grandmother loved me unconditionally as I did her. I cherish the times we spent together, and I miss her very much. - -Brenda Tiner Hirrlinger.

Grandma and I got along great. I had the greatest respect for her. She was never harsh, never raised her voice. I knew what she expected and I always did as she asked. When I stayed with her she just let me be me. She would sew, can fresh vegetables, make homemade soap and watch her soap operas. I hung out with her or played outside in the yard while it was cool. I knew to stay inside the yard and away from the street. Mrs. Johnson lived next door and sometimes I would visit with her, but I always told grandma where I was going first. There was a huge pecan tree in grandma's side yard that I used to play hopscotch under. I always looked forward to when the pecans fell. We would pick them up and crack them. They were so good. I guess that is why I love pecans! The house is now gone. There is a playground there now for the Central Baptist Church. The tree is still there. I drive by every now and then and have taken pictures of the old pecan tree and where the house used to be. It brings back a lot of happy memories.- - Brenda Tiner Hirrlinger.
