Jehu D. Hungate (son of Charles Hungate) was born March 31, 1791 in Mercer Co. Ky., and died November 21, 1855 in Near Salem IN. He married (1) Fannie Lewelling Coffin. He married (2) Ann DePauw on February 01, 1816.

*Jehu Hungate, Great grandson of the founder was born 31 March 1791 in Mercer County, Kentucky. He was married twice, first to Anna Depaw, a member of the celebrated family of wealth and refinement and for whom DePaw University is named. Second marriage to Fannie Lewelling Coffin, cultured and refined woman. At his first marriage February 1, 1816, the Rev. William Bottom officiated. He married the last time in Indiana and by the Second wife had two children - 13 by the first wife. He moved to Washington County Indiana in 1819.

He became an active and influential member of the community and in 1852 was appointed by Governor Wright to the Associate Judgeship of Washington County. He died November 21,1855, member of long standing in the Missionary Baptist Church. Jehu was noted for his interest in fine livestock. He had some race horses that he ran in the Louisville and at the Washington County Fair. He was head of the County Fair Association; a livestock breeder; a general promoter of agriculture of sorts; not active in running for Political office himself, but there were few political "pies" that he did not have a finger in as he was the political "boss" of the courthouse ring.
Jehu D. Hungate served as a Private in Captain Thomas P. Moore's Company, Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia; battalion commanded by Major P. Dudley in the war of 1812. His home was Harrodburg, Kentucky. He was discharged 20 November 1814 in Detroit, Michigan.
