Descendants of FELIX FURBEE

Generation No. 6

9. MIRIAM6 FURBEE (BOWERS5, BENJIMAN4, BENJAMIN FURBEE3 [FURBY], BENJAMIN FURBEE2, FELIX1 FURBEE) was born Abt. 1750 in Kent Co., Delaware, and died Abt. 1820 in Monongalia Co., VA (later to be WV). She married ROBERT DAVIS JR Bef. 1774, son of ROBERT DAVIS and SUSANNAH HART. He was born Abt. 1750, and died Abt. August 1825.

Notes for R
OBERT DAVIS JR:
In 1792 Robert Davis and wife Mary Ann were summoned to answer John Mann and wife Ann in a plea of slander, damage 500 pounds, 4 JUL 1791 and 5 MAY 1792. The parties agreed to let arbitrators settle the dispute. Edward Parrish, Amos and George Smith, and William Jolliff, arbitrators, awarded the plaintiffs 6 pence. The same case involved John Davis, with Caleb Furby testifying for the Manns.

On 13 FEB 1797 Robert was surety for the estate of Brinkl[e]y Davis. This is apparently Brinkley Davis, son of the Matthias Davis who died in Kent Co., DE, APR 1785.

Robert was apparently the R. Davis in the 1810 census of Monongalia Co., VA; his household comprised one male 16-26, one male 45+, two females 10-16, three females 16-26, and one female 45+. The other possibility, Rob. Davis, is too young and is probably his son Robert.

Robert's will, made 14 JUL 1825, was probated AUG 1825; heirs named are daughter-in-law Ann Davis; grandsons Absolom Hart Davis and Abner Sipple Davis (sons of Charles, dec'd.); Charles and Miriam Davis, children of Charles dec'd.; sons John, Robert, Caleb; granddaughter Anna Davis; daughters Elizabeth Watts and Mary Furbey; wits. Stephen Gapen, John and Margaret Batten; excr. Bowers Davis.

Notes for A
NNA FURBEE:
Lyle Corder says Anna died 1833 in Monongalia Co., but an Ann Davis, widow of John, married George Smith 14 JAN 1842 in Monongalia, surety Thomas Lazzell. In 1803 George Smith had bought from a John and Anna Davis land adjoining Jesse Martin, whose land was "on the river, near Laurel Run," deed witnessed by Caleb Furbee, Barney Haney, and Robert Davis; these people all lived near John Davis and Anna Furbee. Also, John and Anna Davis were still selling land in 1835.

Notes for J
OHN DAVIS:
There are two John Davises in the reconstructed 1790 census of DE in Mispillion Hundred; he is probably one of them, the other being the son of Mathias Davis Sr., who died in 1785; in Murderkill Hundred the only John Davis has "Manrings" [a misreading of Mathias?] in parentheses after his name.
On 11 SEP 1797 Robert and Messey Davis and John and Ann Davis sold to William Veach, for $100 VA money, 106 acres on Robinsons Run, adjoining John Davis and Robert Davis; it was part of a tract patented to Joseph Meal 26 JAN 1787; signed Robert Davis, Messey Davis, John Davis, Anna Davis; no witnesses. Solomon Getty was sold land on Robinsons Run by John and Anna Davis in 1835; see Elizabeth Getty, 2nd wife of Bowers Davis. John and Anna sold land to their son Robert at the same time.
