Waitman and Catherine (Leap) Furbee, lived in Monongalia Co. Va, when they
were married, about 1806, and remained there until 1823, at which time they
journeyed South west until they reached what is now known as the area of
Wileyville, West Virginia. The area was then in Tyler Co. Va. Since which
time has become Wetzel Co. W.Va. Wileyville is on the waters of Little
Fishing Creek. The first five children were born in Monongalia Co., while
little Gabriel Furbee, was born in Wetzel.
Waitman and Catherine (Leap) Furbee, as well as most of their children
and descendants, were found to be located in Proctor District, of Wetzel
County West Virginia, in the head waters of Lynn Camp Run, which empties
into Fish Creek, of Marshall County, at Lynn Camp, the little community,
where lived, so many of the early settlers of that area, such as, the
Gorbys, Clarks, Andersons, Alleys, Youngs, Masons and Postlethwaits, etc.
Over the hill, south of the Furbees was located, Wileyville, on Little
Fishing Creek, while over the hill, on the north, was Fish Creek, in
Marshall County. The two creeks were not related, however, they both were
tributaries of the Ohio River. Over the hill from the Furbees, on Rocky Run,
which empties into Fish Creek, Iived old Richard Postlethwait, the same
gentleman who secured a land grant from the State of Virginia, for three
hundred there, in 1826. Richard Postlethwait had a large family, three of
whom, married three children of Waitman and Catherine (Leap) Furbee. Elsie
Postlethwait married the eldest Furbee Child, John George Furbee, and the
next one to marry a Furbee, was Jane, who married Samuel Furbee. The third
Postlethwait to marry one of the Furbee Clan, was Richard Postlethwait II.
He married Catherine Furbee, the youngest of the three daughters, being
named for her mother, All six lived and died within a couple of miles or so,
from where the old Furbee Family settled, in the twenties.

Waitman came from Kent Co., DE and settle in Monongalia Co. around 1790. Later, he moved to Taylor Co. in 1823 settling on Fishing Creek near Wileyville which would later become Wetzel Co. He bought 230 acres for 4.95 an acre on the West Run.
