MARY BELL8 FURBEE (WAITMAN7, CALEB6, BOWERS5, BENJIMAN4, BENJAMIN FURBEE3 [FURBY], BENJAMIN FURBEE2, FELIX1 FURBEE) was born March 01, 1819 in Monongalia Co., VA, and died Abt. 1908 in Pine Grove,Wetzel Co., WV. She married SAMUEL JONES LONG I June 28, 1833 in Green Co., PA, son of JEREMIAH LONG and JANE JONES. He was born May 17, 1813 in Green Co., PA, and died March 26, 1895 in Pine Grove, W.Va..

Notes for MARY BELL FURBEE:
In 1833 Mary Bell was 14yrs, 2 mos, and 27 days old when she rode to Green County, Pa. with and to married Samuel Jones Long.
The couple rode on horseback to Greene Co. to get married. The day before they had been working the fields together and when Samuel came by with his horse and plow, she would turn her back to him as she was shy and timid.

In 1838 Samuel received two land grants from the state of VA. One was for twenty and another was for one hundred acres. Both were located on the waters of Steel's Run which empties into Little Fishing Creek just above Wileyville, WV. The head waters of Steel's Run is just a mile or so from where the Furbee family settled. The Long and Furbee families were neighbors before the marriage of Samuel and Mary.

Samuel Jones Long and his wife, Mary Bell, moved to the North Fork of Fishing Creek about 1840 and bought one hundred acres just out of Pine Grove, WV. Mary was only 14 at the time.

Samuel and Mary had twelve children and became prosperous and influential in the area.

In 1850, Samuel secured 580 acres of land, mostly on Maud's Run in the Grant District of Wetzel Co., from the state of VA. It later became an oil field and at the turn of the century, just after Samuel's death, all the children prospered from this.
