Notes for J
ACKSON FARABEE BISPHAM:
Jackson F. Bispham was raised in the Gillette area of Palmetto, FL. He and wife Kate had a row crop farm on Long Boat Key when they married. They also raised livestock on the island.

In 1921 a terrible hurricane hit the island and just about everything washed into the bay. Jack, Kate and two year old Ruth rode the storm out in a boat anchored in a lime grove. When the storm passed, the land was so full of salt the farm was ruined.

They moved to the mainland just south of the city of Sarasota, near the Fields Estate and Jack started a dairy with seven cows. Original brand for his cows was "7 C's" (which stood for his 7 cows.) His dairy grew and eventually he was milking 90 cows, mostly holsteins. He bought his first milking machine in 1941. Until then, the cows were milked by hand, beginning about 3:00 a.m. and milk delivered to customers in time for breakfast.

After Kate's death, Jack married Lois Parker, whom he had known for many years. They lived at the dairy for a few years and then moved to Live Oak, FL where Jack went back to farming, raising tomatoes, grapes, guinea hens and cane. After Lois died, he sold his house and bought one on the other side of town next door to Almeda Swan. She was a nurse who had looked after Lois while she was sick, and she and Jack became friends. She looked after him until shortly before his death, when he had to be moved to a nursing home in Sarasota, FL.

Jack never knew his cousins or other relatives when he was growing up, and insisted that his grandchildren get to know each other.

Notes for C
ATHERINE CHRISTINE KATE GRAVES:
Catherine Graves was 9 years old when her father, Cyrus Graves, was killed in a sawmill accident near Palatka, Fl.

Her grandchildren speak of having wonderful memories of her as a great seamstress and cook.

One granddaughter now owns a china cabinet that was Catherine's and she declares the cabinet still smells like the wonderful applesauce cakes her grandmother made.
