The Vander Sys, Archambault, Baker & Wright Families

Updated June 13, 2001

About Our Family Research

In 1913, Kie's Grandparents WILLEM and JOHANNA (Kop) van der SIJS, were the fist van der Sijs to come to the United States from The Netherlands. They immigrated to Chicago before settling in the Grand Haven Michigan area. Willem (William) changed the spelling of our surname to VANDER SYS to make it appear more "American".

The grandparents of Willem are JACOBUS and MAARTJE (Alemen) van der Sijs. Maartje is a direct descendant of King William the Third, thus a direct descendant of Charlemange.

The parents of Willem are AART and REINA (Lalleman) van der Sijs.

Aart and Reina had the following children:
WILLEM born 1889, migrated to the USA
MAGDALENA born 1879, migrated to the USA
JACOBUS (Jacob) born 1877, migrated to the USA
ARRIE (Art) born 1884, migrated to the USA
THEODORUS (Ted) born 1892 migrated to the USA
ANTJE ELIZABETH born 1894
MAARTJE born 1881
GERRIT born 1887
ADRIANA born 1897

Most all Vander Sys, Vandersys, VanDer Sys or van der Sys' living in the United States are direct descendants of AART and REINA van der SIJS.

Our sincere gratitude goes to Jacobus van der Sijs for providing a copy of our family tree to 1500's The Netherlands!

*****************************************************************

Cyn's Archambault ancestors were Huguenots who fled to Canada from France in the 1600's and helped in the founding of Montreal Canada. My great great grandparents ANTOINE and CAROLINE (ALCOCK) ARCHAMBOULT and their children moved from Canada to Isabella County Michigan prior to 1870.
Antoine and Caroline had 6 children: Josepth John (b.1895),
William (b.1856),Fannie(b.1858), Sophia (b.1863)George Antoine (b. 1860) and my Great Grandfather, Robert Stephen Saxby Archamboult (b.1863).

Robert married Isabel Baker, daughter of John and Julia Baker, on July 4, 1886 in Isabella County, Michigan. They had Robert, Michael, Catherine, Durwin, Althea and my Grandfather, William Jennings Bryan (Jennings) Archambault, born 1896.

Jennings married Gretchen Howarth, and their children are:
Virgina Ernestine, William, Joan, Joyce and my dad, Merle Duane Archambault, all born in Clare Michigan.

My maternal ancestors Davis and Wright lived in the Clare area in the 1800's. My Great Great Grandfather Davis owned a farm north east of Clare, Michigan in the 1800's. My Great Grandmother is LOUELLA DAVIS born about 1876. She married HARVEY BERNARD WRIGHT and they had 3 sons: BERNARD HARVEY born about 1895, GEORGE EDWIN born about 1899 and my grandfather, CHARLES MARION WRIGHT born 30 January 1897.

  • Kie & Cyn's Netherland Dog, Shadow (66 KB)
Shadow is an AKC reg. Keeshond, a breed of intelligent, charming, elegant clowns!!! Keeshonden are named for the spritely spitz who was always at the side of Cornelis de Ghyselaer, (nickname "Kees")the Dutch Partiot leader who fought for the common Netherlanders during the French Revolution. Cornelis (Kees) dog (hond) was so closely linked to The Patriot movement, that when Cornelis was executed, Keeshonden were slaughtered, and to own a Keeshond could result in one's death. THe Keesonden faced extinction, however many loving Netherland people risk their lives to keep this wonderful breed of dog alive! Shadow shares the same love and dedication to his family as his ancestor showed to Cornelius and the Dutch people.
