Family Photos
  • Children of Joel Garrett and Mary Ann Raycraft (35 KB)
This photo is of the children of Joel Garrett and Mary Ann Raycraft. Joel is the brother of my relative Matthew Garrett. Matthew came from East Chinnock, Somersetshire, England and arrived in Canada July 2, 1842. He lived in South Gower, Kemptville, Oxford-on-Rideau all in Grenville Co. and settled in Olden and Oso Townships in Frontenac Co, Ontario, Canada near the towns of Sharbot Lake and Mountain Grove. Joel immigrated between 1846 and 1851 at his brother's urging. They are counted among the first settlers of the area, along with their wives Elizabeth Ellen Knox Garrett and Mary Ann Raycraft Garrett. Photo courtesy of Sandra Hollywood.
  • Mary Ellen Garrett Carmichael around 1910 or so (45 KB)
This is my Great Great Grandmother Carmichael. She was born in either New York or Ontario, Canada on February 9, 1856 and died in Richmond, Contra Costa County, California on December 9, 1943. She was daughter of Matthew Garrett and Elizabeth Ellen Knox, and wife of William George Carmichael.
  • John Kerr Eleanor Knox Kerr Family 1874? Canada (80 KB)
I received this photo from another Garrett/Knox/Carmichael researcher. She told me that "Grandmother Garrett, Carmichael side, 1874 Canada" is written on the back. However, the man with the white mustache in back is Robert Kerr, son of John Kerr and Eleanor Knox Kerr as verified by another photo taken the same day. I assume the woman seated is Eleanor Knox Kerr, Elizabeth Knox Garrett's sister or mother (probably sister).
  • Cornelius Elias Seymour and Jennie Brown Seymour (1086 KB)
Cornelius Elias Seymour was born in Barford, Quebec, Canada to Eli Seymour and Mary Garner Seymour who were immigrants from England. Jennie Brown Seymour was daughter of William Brown (born May 1820 England) and Jane Bett(s) Brown (born Saxilby, England). They all settled in the Kingston, Green Lake County, Wisconsin and Pardeeville, Town of Marcellon, Columbia County, Wisconsin area.
  • Carmichael Family, approximately 1905 (44 KB)
This photo is courtesy of Lee Wilder. The boy is William George Carmichael, b. 1/4/1892 Sharbot Lake, Frontenac Co, Ontario, Canada. Front Row: Elsie Grace, William George, Ida Frances. Top Row, left to right: Annie/Anna (Mary Ann), Jean (Sarah), Agnes Rebecca, Elizabeth Ellen, Viola Rachel, Margaret Victoria. Picture could have been taken in Sharbot Lake or vicinity, or the Utica/New Hartford, New York area.
  • William George Carmichael, 1915 New Hartford, NY (47 KB)
This is my great-great grandfather, William George Carmichael (went by George). He was born Dec. 25,1849 in Ireland and he died March 25, 1921 in Rome, NY but had lived in New Hartford, NY and Sharbot Lake, Ontario, Canada for quite a few years. His father was George Carmichael, no dates known, born in Ireland. His mother's name was Eliza Williamson born in Ireland.
  • Ann Eliza Stanton (or Fuller or Stockwell) McElroy (87 KB)
There is confusion about Ann Eliza's name. She was raised by "Auntie Stockwell", Angeline Fuller (her mother's sister) who married William H. Stockwell. Ann Eliza's son David McElroy thought her maiden name was Fuller until his brother told him in was Stanton. Marriage certificate gives name of Eliza Stockwell. Some pictures have her name as Eliza Ann. Her birth certificate either never existed or burned at the courthouse in Medina, Medina Co, Ohio. She was born May 4, 1841 to Alonzo Stanton and Hannah Washburn per family history. It is said her parents may not have been married to each other.
  • William McElroy born 2/02/1832 Ayrshire Scotland (152 KB)
William McElroy walked from New York to Wisconsin where he first settled in the Town of Buffalo, Marquette Co, WI. His sister Mary Jane McElroy Thompson lived there with her husband. He later moved to the Town of Marcellon, Columbia Co, WI near Pardeeville where he farmed.
  • John Garrett or John or William George Carmichael (49 KB)
This picture was sent to me by a distant cousin. She thought it was John Garrett, but he could possibly be a Carmichael family member. It was taken in Perth, Ontario, Canada probably in the 1870s or 1880s (let me know if you can date it or identify the individual).
