Mrs. Vicars was a native of Ft. Blackmore, Va., and had lived in Kingsport and Hawkins County since 1943. She was a daughter of the late Rod and Maude Hall Dingus.

She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Church Hill, a charter member and a 50-year member of the Kingsport Rebecca Lodge No. 17, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 198. She was for many years an active member of the Kingsport Crewettes.
Mrs. Vicars was preceded in death by her husband, James Kyle Vicars; a son, James Hubert Vicars; two sisters, Nannie Dingus Noles and Belva Dingus Honeycutt; and three brothers, Howard Dingus, Fred Dingus and George Dingus.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Lee Smith, Jonesborough; one son and daughter-in-law, Lowell and Rosemary Vicars, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Dawn Hodges and husband Tim, Jennifer Vicars, Chris Vicars and wife Brooke, Darin Vicars; one stepgrandson, Derek Smith and wife Michelle; three great-grandchildren, Jamey Vicars, Taylor Hodges and Caleb Hodges; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Craig and Chad Smith; two sisters, Sally Lane and husband, Claude, Ft. Blackmore, Va., and Jean Frazier, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; and one brother, Pat Dingus and wife, Irene, Ft. Blackmore Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at anytime at her residence.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bill Porter officiating.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Cemetery. The family and friends will meet at the cemetery.

KINGSPORT - Andrew Jackson Vicars Sr., 80, passed away Thursday (Feb. 13, 2003) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, Va. on Feb. 27, 1922. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Vicars was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Martha Egan Vicars; several sisters and brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Rosa Lee Dingus Vicars, Kingsport; daughter, Jeanette Cole, Church Hill; sons, Andrew J. Vicars Jr., Kingsport, Bill Vicars, Church Hill, Randall (Mike) Vicars, Kingsport; grandchildren, John and Jason Vicars, Michelle and Crystal Vicars, Cindy Cole; great-grandchildren, Wendy and Hayden Vicars, Hunter Winegar; several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. today at Egan Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va. with the Rev. James Spivey officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Jackson Vicars Sr. in Feb. 2003; her parents, Robert Dingus and Sally Hall Dingus.

Surviving are her daughter, Jeanette Cole, Church Hill; her sons, Andrew J. Vicars Jr., Kingsport, Bill Vicars, Church Hill, and Randall (Mike) Vicars, Kingsport; grandchildren, John Vicars, Jason Vicars, Michelle Cavin, Crystal Winegar and Cindy Sims; great-grandchildren, Wendy Vicars, Hayden Vicars, Hunter Winegar, Shane Sims and Cody Sims; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Egan Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va., with the Rev. Layton Bentley officiating.
